Why must our Yanks playing abroad be continually compared to one another? It usually goes something like this: 1st comment: Friedel was awesome this weekend. Next comment: Yeah but Keller could have done this better. or like this: 1st comment: McBride scored again! Next comment: Yeah but Moore scored this many when he first got there. My take: Moore has not been a regular for Everton in years. Brian and Joe-Max played different roles, in different years, for different managers. They both made a large impact during their first handful of games. It looks like neither will have a long lasting effect on the team as Moore lost his spot as time went on and Brian will be returning to MLS. So why do we keep comparing the 2 and try to make 1 sound better than the other? When we claim one player had a good game, why does someone else have to defend another player. If I say that Keller was fantastic this weekend. Guess what, I'm not implying anything about the gameplay of Friedel, Hahnemann or anyone else. If I say McBride scored again it doesn't belittle anything that Moore did for Everton years ago.
Uh, I see it as an advancement that we even have meaningful comparisons... Every sport has comparisons.....it is part of the fun of thing....Bonds vs. McGwire....Shaq vs. Yao..... Lighten up and let stat-guys finally enjoy their fun....do we all have to sit back and say, "soccer players are paintings...let's sit back and enjoy their natural beauty, not compare, and be happy"....gag It so difficult to compare in soccer because stats are usually so meaningless (not plentiful)....let us enjoy the few comparisons that exist (its not like you could name many either)...no danger of this thread being populated by such....and btw- I think the Keller/Friedel rivarly has been GREAT for both players (motivation)
You missed my point. Comparisons and debate are good and fun. Discussing the progress as Friedel and Keller push each other to improving their game is good. Comparing the feats of McBride with Preston and Casey with Hannover when they were each in the 2nd division of their countries league pointed out contrasting styles and included league differences. My point was... Why do people feel the need to defend player B, just because player A did something well? I can see the comparisons between Keller and Friedel because they are both playing in the same league at the same position each week. The comparison in their play is a good thing. But to rush to Friedel's defense just because Keller had an amazing save (or vice versa) is personal bias not a meaningful comparison.
I'd agreed that too much tit-for-tat gets boring...in the case of Keller/Friedel, they are likely there long enough, that one can sit back and relax....and draw broader comparisons In the case of McBride/Moore, we just don't know how much longer we'll have such fun....g After McHead is back in MLS, this discussion will be cold chicken..
i think its ok if we put those threads in appropriate column like "fans column" for example, which i think we have here in big soccer.

Sometimes its a case of favorites. People will always defend their favorite players. I'm guilty of it when people critcize Cladio Reyna.
Sure his posts are well thought, but Wahoo's posts are in paragraphs AND use DIFFERENT colored fonts (and, and even bold fonts)! I'm not trying to say that jri is a stiff, he's written some very nice posts, but in my book, he's no Wahoo.
what's all the fuss? I'm just glad we have enough yanks abroad to make comparisons. it says a great deal to me that we are finally breaking the barriers and that there are a slew of yanks making impacts in top euro leagues. within a few years i hope to see a yank in every major euro league (epl, serie a , bundesliga, la liga). i honestly believe mls done wonders for most, not all of the major yanks abroad.
Have you ever read a jri post? Well written? Does manipulation of statistics, being JMM's love-child and overall badgering = well written? Check out any of the McBride/Everton threads...especially the PRE transfer ones. You'd think that SportBoy321 was Einstein in comparison. I'm not sure what you mean by "crush", but rest assured, superdave is NOT the only own who is sick and tired of his shtick. Of course, I don't bother with him anymore as he's been on the ignore list for a while now.
No, I don't follow jri's posts. I was specifically refering to the posts in this thread. I liked what he had to say and thought he argued his point well. For whatever reason superdave feels the need to rip on jri in every thread (it seems). Fine, don't like the guy, but there isn't any reason to call him names just because you don't like his opinion. If you don't like what a guy has to say you don't have to read it. Why start in with an unprovoked personall attack? superdave's action's seem extremely immature. I've seen him act this way on numerous occasions so I'm going to call him on it.
Maybe this thread should be renamed, "Why do we pit POSTERS against each other". g The value of these threads, I would hope, is not to win arguments...the value is to refine your opinions and hopefully pick up something in the process....I've learned from posters with whom I often disagree....etc, etc. If some of you would like a "sanitized" BiSo with only "PC" soccer postings, you/the discussion will be the loser for it. If you want to sanitize the threads, how about geting rid of needless name-calling and personal attacks...that is the greatest threat to a quality program here. If you can't stand the intellectual heat (and have some personal building up inside of you), for goodness sake, just put someone on ignore. And then leave them alone/don't go near their threads. But please don't be so moronic to them come on threads and TELL PEOPLE CONTINUOUSLY that you do so (have someone on ignore)....that is the height of stupidity and show a tremendous lack of intellectual creativity. Free speech rocks...for those who can recognize the value of a well-written, well-argued post (even if you disagree) vs. name-calling, I salute you....(I think I just bastardized AC/DC with that last paragraph-g)
