After the Championship match ESPN/ABC soccer sideline reporter Veronica Paysse attempted to interview Carlos Ruiz, but he wasn't about to have any of it [Reportedly, he just walked away from her even after she addressed him in Spanish]? She even commented on it.

    My question: Que pasa?

It's not like Fish was emotional or anything. Did you see him and Sigi as she was trying to shove a camera in his face? C'mon, give the guy a chance to collect his thoughts after that match. I thought her attempt to cut in like that was classless.

ABC "had" to cut to golf, so, under some time pressure, she tried to get a quote in quickly. Ruiz was busy, and rightly so. Then golf came on and my TV went off. I guess I should be happy that the final was at least shown in its entirety.

Man, what is up with all you BS posters totally busting nuts over your keyboards about this Veronica Paysse chick? The fact that her english is barely understandable is enough of a turnoff for me. Let's not even mention the fact that she has on 4 whale's worth of make-up on just to make herself look like a Tuesday Matinee topless dancer at the Jiggly Room. Now, if someone like LeeAnn Tweeden or Lisa Guerrero was the field reporter, damn, now that's something worth making my keys sticky for.

Anyway, I agree with PZ, the two men were sharing a moment of genuine reflection about all the hard work and fulfilled expectations realized this year. If I was Carlos I would have punched her in the face and continued on celebrating with my teammates and the champagne bath.

According to Wade Jackson's photos - see other thread - Carlos did get interviewed by Veronica after all, just too late for airtime.

yes punching her in the face would have been a class thing to do. Veronica does a good job, probably doesn't make that much money, and I've met her in person and can say she was quite stunning when she was standing right next to me.

I was talking about the comment the guy made about Ruiz being an idiot for not speaking English.

BTW, That Miss Guatemala is one fine lady.

Veronica was just trying to do her job. Why would anyone hold that against her?

On the other hand, props to Carlos for not bowing to the almighty TV camera and instead choosing to share his feelings with his teammates. This guy is no phony.

I really hate people who say VP does not have understandable English. She speaks more understandable English than alot of native born people. Her accent is not as strong as people have made it out to be (I know, my girlfriend is a native Spanish speaker of equivalent accent). The only difference is that VP doesn't always use proper grammar, nor does she ask the most insightful questions. But she does know how to speak English, and she has the balls to do so on national TV.

yeah, why should a guy from Guatemala have to speak English?? (why does someone from the US HAVE to speak English for that matter, it's not the "Official" language, it's the dominant language...but I digress)
Veronica also is a natural Spanish Speaker and as some may know there are differences between English and Spanish like grammar, and inflection....words that are stressed in english sentences may not be stressed in a spanish sentence and vice versa...It just sounds odd to people used to a certain language....
