DC United, just after playing (and beating) Tottenham, are talking about playing Blackburn. How come we never play a Premiership team? Don't the Revs/MLS honchos think there are any Brits in New England? A match against a PL team would sell as well or better here than it does in DC (which got something like 14K for the Tottenham game). Even when quality Euro teams come here, they usually don't play the Revs anyway. It's long past time for us to measure ourselves against the other leagues as other MLS teams have done.
Heck, I'd settle for one of the Old Firm. You'd think that with a Scottish coaching corps of Nicol and Driver, we could lure one of them over.

Good question. EPL has a huge following in the Boston area, while the Portugeuse community would come out in droves. How about both!?!
Re: Re: Why can't we get "matches" like that? Don't forget that Nicol spent many years as a key player on the great Liverpool sides of the eighties and nineties - I doubt that they would turn him down if he made a special request and could guarantee that the event would be planned well. They have plenty of exciting young players to fill out the side even if they left most of the top Internationals (Gerrard, Owen, Heskey, Hyppia, Henchoz, Riise, Dudek, Hamann) at home. And there are tons of Liverpool fans on the Eastern seaboard.
I bet part of the problem in the past had to do with Sullivan Stadium. Even though the big Razor is much nicer, it's still out in godforsaken Foxborough, way too far from the city.
are we really that masochistic that we haven't learned to stop writing posts that read "why can't we get (fill in the blank) like that"? that being said...i'd sure like to know whatever became of that great "partnership" that the revs and benfica formed awhile back. however, if they don't get back into our stadium anytime soon....it'd be fine with me. god, please revs, form a real, fruitful, meaningful partnership with someone...anyone! imo, they explanation for no club v revs matches probably has to do with similar fears that the revs had held towards the usoc for all those years.....injuries. they've never taken many, if any, exhibitions that seriously. if anyone has seen "a mighty wind".....remember the lawsuit frightened son of the promoter that died...who is putting together the reunion concert (name: johnathan steinbloom). to me, this guy epitomized the kraft family's view towards the revs. [and no, not in a "jewish sense" for those wanting to make a connection there].
