This was going to be my next question. My understanding is most locals are like you and try to stay away from the Strip. Does location become a 'locals vs tourist' battle? Or will locals just bite the bullet and go support their team no matter where the stadium is?
That was 2025. It's recovered very slightly in 2026. Wherever you put a stadium it needs to be accessible by road, as there's no public transit system in Vegas.
Locals will still go. I have season tickets to the WNBA’s Aces, who play at Mandalay Bay. That’s pretty much the only time I go down to the strip. The AAA baseball Aviators have a nice little stadium on the West side of town in Summerlin. It’s adjacent to a mall, restaurants, a nice casino hotel. I would love a replica of that setup for an MLS team. It probably is smarter to have the stadium on the strip though.
I don't want the Whitecaps to move there but I'd love to see the Las Vegas Quicksilvers name and logo live again!
Loosest of loose rumors, but theres whispers of a legit ownership option shaping up........very low confidence level, but Caps reddit is speaking of it. Id have to guffaw at it having a legit stadium option though. But........there is hope. And rebellions are built on hope. Saving the crew seemed outlandish at one point too.
I still believe that saving the Crew ONLY succeeded because of the Model law. Sure, the fans played a role, but it was the law that bought the time for the new owners to step up. Otherwise, the Crew would not exist today. Does Vancouver or BC have such a law?
I asked the same quesiton in the other thread and this was the answer I got... Is Vancouver moving to Las Vegas | Page 4 | BigSoccer Forum BC Canada is in a different country and has their own set of laws so I'm sure they can make up one if they wanted to.
Vancouver just got a big breath of life. The rumored backer is of First Nation descent. Which is actually a HUGE deal not just just from a PR standpoint. Some Reddit reading shows that they have MUCH more elasticity with building and land than the usual crowd. Basically, they can blast through the NIMBYs almost unimpeded, which is fantastic news for stadium prospects. But knowing the backer is First Nations is a massive deal.
MLS teams told to prepare for Vancouver Whitecaps' Vegas relocation: report Nooooooo make it stahhhhhhp plzzzzz
The funny thing, I always thought Montreal would be the first team to drop from MLS, rather than maybe Vancouver. Don't know much about the Saputo family/business, but are they really deep enough to play in the level many teams in MLS are now moving to ? (LAFC, MIA, NYC etc.). Or if they have the money, they just choose to spend like a lower level team? Dropping to CPL doesn't really seem an option, although if they cut their budge in half, would they be the biggest spender in the CPL? Doesn't seem to do them any good. Does the CPL have a salary cap? I worry about that league as well. Montreal stadium situation is just odd- a small outdoor and a too big indoor- neither great. Will be interesting to see where this all goes. Now, one thing that sits in the back of head, let say VAN and MONT leave MLS, that's 2 more "USA" markets that could be added to the league, say to keep at 30 and then the eventually expansion to 32. So essentially 4 more USA markets...... they say money talks and will be interesting to see what money will eventually say on this.
And NHL is interested only in......*checks notes*........ Atlanta and Houston. Well known hockey powerhouses....... that and recent forays into Atlanta for the NHL have gone SO well before.
The Saputo family has put all their eggs in the Bologna basket that they completely forgot about Montreal.
Own but not win anything. They should all move to the Canadian Hockey League. That would show those Yankees!
He's my ultimate plan. Initial 40 teams (ultimately 48) with Minnesota switching divisions. MLS East NE NYC RBNY DC Philly Toronto Montreal Columbus Cincinnati Chicago (+Indy, +Detroit) MLS Central Atlanta Orlando Miami Charlotte Nashville St Louis Houston Dallas Austin SKC (+Minnesota, +Louisville) MLS West RSL Colorado Vancouver Seattle Portland San Jose LAFC Galaxy San Diego Minnesota (+Phoenix, +Sac, +Vegas -Minnesota) MLS Mexico Monterrey America Pumas Tigres Cruz Azul Toluca Pachuca Leon Chivas Puebla (+Atlante, +Necaxa)
You're suggesting that Mexican teams roll up under the single entity MLS system where the league owns all player contracts, teams, logos, team designs, etc? Or is MLS going to somehow run two separate systems of ownership with everyone thinking that's fair? You also are suggesting that fans (and owners) would be just fine rolling up to a corporation in the US. And what about the other teams? Why did you pick those team? This isn't even getting into the issues with the origins of where the current capital to fund many of the teams comes from or how the teams are run to hide profits and launder money. Let's just move on.
I'm suggesting Liga MX owners might like a piece of the action where they can sell a significant stake of an average team at a valuation of $900M. More importantly it would end the need for Leagues Cup. Not that it's going to happen.
