    Yeah, that's a while

And nothing is carved in stone. Remember Oceania was meant to get an automatic spot? Things change and Sepp's a corrupt piece of toss.
It'd be nice were it to go to S America, but be prepared for it not to happen.

oh poor you having to wait a whole 20 years!!!

England hasnt had it for over 37 years and not likely to even get the chance for another 15 years, and im sure other countries are thinking similar thoughts,

and it was only 9 years ago, not 20 :/

Boro_Lad> I'm sorry to tell you this but England is not in the rotation. It's only confederations. And Europe has hosted (and will host) 2006, 1998, 1990, 1982, pretty much every other World Cup.

Sams_Soldier> You think 20 years is a long time?
Conmebol hasn't hosted the World Cup since 1978, if we get it in 2014 its going to be 36 YEARS. Even though Conmebol has won more World Cups than all the other confederations together.

It seems to me like Conmebol should get it.

Besides, Brazil has won 5 World Cups and has hosted the WC once 53 years ago and counting.

Really? Thanks for the gen.

In that case, the reason behind starting the thread should be null and void as the US isn't a confederation either.

The rotation system won't happen either.

i said at least 15 years, which is 2018, which is a feasable time period for the next european world cup.

So its Germany in 2006, Africa (likely S. Africa) in 2010, South America (Brazil) in 2014? After that it will probably go back to Europe for 2018 and then it would most likely be here in 2022.

id say we are the backup plan on all of thsoe wc's because of the large stadiums we have and can get over the summer months. i would not be suprised if we got the wc before 2022 because of the fact last time it was here it made trucks loads of cash. also blatter knows if we can win, it will be at home and that will set our little campfire we call soccer into a forrest fire. its all about the money (nin) and luckily for us (americans) thats the way it is cause i see us getting it before we all think.

Ya, but i think this wount apply to the 2014 specific case, because you have to consider the confederation in hand. Oceania would not have lost their spot if Conmebol had not complained to fifa about losing their half spot.

Fifa is about money , but it's also about politics. Uefa and Conmebol are the strongest political influence in fifa. So I doubt it that Blatter would do anything to annoy them too much.

    Um, wow.

    Wow.

Africa is the strongest confederation politically. I mean, their ratio of WC slots to results is every bit as bad as Asia's, and arguably worse. Sepp put in the whole "rotation" system to guarantee them a WC asap. The rotation system hurts Europe more than anyone, because they have the most nations capable of hosting.

Also, please explain how CONMEBOL's 10 votes are powerful.

This is so wrong, I wonder if it's satire.

    WC and the U.S.

i wonder if the US will host the WC again when CONCACAF gets its turn to host the cup. i would imagine that the US would have a better bid than say CANADA, MEXICO or the carribean islands. it does come down to money, and the American market will provide more money than the other possible hosts in CONCACAF.

although i can imagine the rest of the countries in CONCACAF crying "UNFAIR" and maybe getting a joint bid or something.

Considering WC '94 was the best-attended WC ever, I'm sure FIFA would be very happy to have it in the States again, but there are a lot of politics involved and while we're a force economically, I don't think we have too much pull in FIFA.

And Boro_Lad, don't forget that you also hosted Euro 96, then tried to stab Germany in the back for WC 2006, so you're not likely to get one soon.

Maybe after England has built Wembley II, Ashburton Grove, and Anfield II, we can talk... on the other hand, a joint bid with Scotland so you can also use Celtic Park and Hampden might work...

    Re: WC and the U.S.

if rotation is used CONCACAF should be lumped together with Oceania, as between them they can only provide 3 potential hosts. Canada has a long way to go before it could be considered as even possible. Mexico is hardly certain either. Requirements have changed a lot since 1986.

didn't USA host the Gold Cup recently? That'd have no bearing on a world cup going there, as won't England hosting Euro 96.

personally I don't want the world cup in England. Having it abroad just seems more exotic and interesting somehow, but as we're talking 2018 at the very earliest, timescales wouldn't be a problem.

The difference is that the Gold Cup is always hosted by the US at least most games in the Gold Cup, look at the venue list for each year at the site below, only twice has a city outside the US hosted games, 93, and 03. With the Euro Cup, you have coutries bidding for the tournament, CONCACAF gives it to the US because they have the resources to be able to host it every time.
