It's less than two years away, so if you're thinking about it, the time to start saving is now. Anyone else plan on making the trip? Dimuha?

When do the matches start? I may actually go provided it doesn't interfere with AT or whatever school I have to go to in 2012.

Yea I hate it, Mr. Not capitalizing the names of the countries.

btw, Russian fans are going to take this thing over. Like Portugal 2004 where the English outnumbered the host country at the stadium. It'll be like that in Ukraine when Russia plays.

Russia is gigantic, obviously you should have the most fans since their the closest country that borders the host, and population dwarfs everyone. Really not saying much, don't know why you constantly mention that

I am going to try and go, but don't know if I will have much money. Would like to turn it into a tour of Poland and Ukraine too. Have some Polish friends as well, but they live in Lodz, but not far from a couple site cities.

I'm considering it. Will have to see what the prices for the tickets will be like.

I might be going. It all depends on company and whether I can convince my wife not to fight this.

Because Russia will most likely be a contestant. Aren't you a fan? Let me put it to you this way, if Russia gets WC2018 and either US or Ukraine qualify, I'm there.

As far as costs, and I anticipate these based on previous experience:

Airfare: $1,500 - $2,000, could be more depending on where you're flying and what airline. Certainly pays to buy tickets as soon as they're available.
Game tickets: $80 - $100 per game for the cheapest sector.
Room and board: Free for me, depending on where you're going you can expect prices close to what we pay here in the U.S.
Spending money: Depending on how long you're staying and what city. $100 a day should more than suffice in Lviv, but Kyiv of course would be more expensive. Can't speak for Kharkiv or Donetsk.

100 a day may be a little much for low brow types like myself, especially considering my diet will mostly consist of beer and candy bars. I might look into seeing if there are any universities offering dorm rooms to students taking Ukrainian classes for a few weeks. I know you can do it in Moscow and Petersburg, as I have friends who have lived in dorm for only two weeks in both cities.

If I can afford it I'll surely go. Hopefully Russia plays in Ukraine and not Poland. Have no desire to go there.

My guess is that getting a hotel will be outlandishly expensive.

I can't tell you about Kharkov, because I have never stayed in a hotel there, and from what I saw, there appears to be only one non Soviet one in town. Which just happens to be where Everton stayed, while they were in town.
Hotels in Ukraine are well known price fixers. Hotels in Kiev run in the $300 range for Soviet era bedrooms, which is why anybody who knows better rents an apartment from somebody. I can only imagine what those managers are going to be running their rooms at during the Euros.

If I end up going, I'll probably split time with Kyiv and Lviv. Lucky for me that I get free accomodations in both places, and I don't have much of an urge for touristy stuff. The rest is making sure I have the time off to go.

I definitely would love to go visit those countries.

An unrelated question, but about soccer, what is generally considered better -directly behind the goal, or a little offset to either side of the goal behind?

for instance Seat 1 or Seat 2?

    Goal
    ------

    Seat1 Seat 2
