Thats a really tough question...even if its an opinion. They both have their strong and weak sides. they both are young and have a great amount of talent thats just beginning to be shown on a large stage. At the club level both are critical and to their national teams the same holds true. On the national level i think Rooney means a lot more to England. His drive and force were a critical factor to England in portugal. His goals were a huge contribution. He is not only a great complimenting player to Micheal Owen, he could stand on his own. And he's only 18. But Ronaldo does have one advantage. He will likely see a lot more games in European club compeition over the forseeable future than Rooney. That may help elevate his game. On the national team side, players like Figo, deco, Tiago, and others will have to be forced aside. Verdict, a wonderful tie.
It's the classic apples and oranges comparison. Rooney is a raw attacker throught the middle and Ronaldo is a technical wing player. Both of them have skills that would scare any defender and can score from anywhere. But I think that Ronaldo has a more developed talent and has proved more at club level. Ronaldo can also hold his head a lot better. Rooney is known to be a hot head. My opinion is that the edge goes to Ronaldo at the current time.
A lot of this depends upon whether or not Rooney can keep his weight in check. As a defender, I wouldn't be that scared of Rooney's skills...two games (against the Swiss and Croatia, I might add) does not a good player make.
Play in dif positions, if we buy Rooney (yeah right Gill wants a new car) we will have Europes two best kids).
Ronaldo has won the world cup, the golden boot, european player of the year like 3 times... Wayne Rooney has won fvck all right? that is a nobrainer obviously~
That is hard to say. I still think that Ronaldo needs more time adjusting to the English game. He also needs to learn to stay on his feet. and how many times can we say stepover.
thats harsh on him motterman... he isnt aneroxic like cristy.. but is still a prolific goalscorer who has won everything!! hell, i'd be the same damn way if i was in his shoes.. just prolly wait till after i retired first...
While I agree that there are differences in the players there are a helluva lot of certainties... Ronaldo was not a winger before he came to United... he played striker... or withdrawn striker same as Rooney does... they both do great things, just in different ways... Rooney seems more important to England than Ronaldo seems for Portugal, but I would wager that without him occupying the entire right side of the opponent's field Portugal get scored on more and dont score as often. Another similarity is the way the press exagerate what they do and heap pressure on the lads... both of them have handled it well thus far, however Rooney needs to move to a big club otherwise he will have trouble staying motivated... A few advantages for Ronaldo... he has played with great players and against great players in CL and for Portugal and he also has someone to pattern his play after (Figo for Portugal, Giggs for United) who does Rooney have to follow? Another thing is look at their strengths.... Rooney depends alot on power and desire to get to balls he has no right getting to... Ronaldo is a bit more of a finesse player, in the end the wear and tear on them is about the same but Ronaldo is less likely to find a defender as fast as he is than Rooney is to find defenders who are stronger than him... Rooney is young though and has a better shot from distance than any 18 yr old i've seen so he will always be a force and can learn to put some finesse in his play... right now the pair remain very close as far as effectiveness and talent go... but I think that Ronaldo has an edge - who knows what will happen in the future?
