Clint Mathis. Rumor is he'll be signing with Salt Lake next year but I can't see him being happy in Mormon land. Bringing him home would start to make up for losing Donogol.

I thought Mathis was from Georgia or someplace else "down south"

Well he was at that time, but then he figured out that the season was meaningless, probably got pissed about Siggi getting sacked and went into pout mode...

    Interview with Onstad:

365: One other thing I think a lot of Earthquake fans are thinking about is that this could be the last season with Landon Donovan. Have you considered that possibility?

PO: I know for me, it was kind of funny, I didn’t even think about that until there was an article in the paper the day before the game here. Yeah, you know he’s a talented player and he’s been a lot of fun to play with and enjoyable to watch play as well. We wish him all the best and I think the guys would love to see him go out with a lot of success and hopefully we can do that this year.

Sounds like it's a done deal?

Getting Nate Jaqua would not be difficult for SJ to do at all. With Razov, Ralph, Herron, Selowane, Boucicaut up front Jaqua is definetly the odd man out along with another 1 or 2 of the above. Have a field day.:)

Old Man! and I agree with you, these two players are exciting and are going to get much better. Hope Dom realizes the same thing.

somebody else recommended a mexican player i cant remember to kickstart the rivalry with ChivasUSA. Though I dont see that being a problem, a player with the cunning and ability of Guevara would be awesome--dont care how far south he comes from!

Also, along with LD being gone, correct me if im wrong but this is probably RE6's last few games in Earthquake blue too. Who to replace him?

Dema Kovalenko. Someone who will fire his team up by biting off an opponent's ear (or nose). That's what the Quakes need.

You do. Dombrowski is Dema like, even coaches and fans with Fire Reserves made that comparison about his aggressive play.

Also...after seeing Dayak's red card celebration he might be Dema in a gorilla costume.

    We could use Mike Tyson?
Maybe we could use Dema for femur busting.
But, Onionsack beat me to it--we have Troy Dayak for that role.
Maybe as he/she says, Dombrowski is the successor.

I don't believe that the Quakes need goons. I don't enjoy watching guys like Dema, Curtin, (Tyrone) Marshall, Garcia, Suarez, et al and tend not to enjoy their teams either. I much prefer players who bring an attractive brand of soccer to the pitch.

As far as Arturo stepping up - it's possible, but only if he attains sufficient maturity to pick his m****rf*****g head up occasionally and actually see what the heck is going on beyond own two feet. I not yet seen him exhibit anything like teamwork and until he does, I am not sold.

At this point, given our history (remember Eddie Lewis?) I would anticipate that if Donovan flees to Germany, the Quakes will get nothing but empty promises that will be exchanged two or three years later for a Devon-Barkley-class player.
