That's exactly what I was going to say when I saw the thread title. Just think what it would do for the discussions on Big Soccer too.
I'd vote England too. Prenn, I think most American soccer fans would want to play England because we haven't played in a while and it's probably the country that we're most familiar with soccer wise (especially with all the EPL highlights on FSW).

Put me down for the English as well. Prenn I can't speak for the others but I love the passion England and its fans bring to even the most pointless of friendlies (see the recent captains row). If we can produce half the atmosphere and feeling of importance of an England home match we will be there. (The Mexico qualie at Columbus was as close as we've been) I think we want to emulate our cousins a bit. Minus the thugs of course.

We play Ireland all the time (I think more often in the last 5 years than any country from outside the Americas aside from possibly Germany), we've played Scotland and Holland recently as well. I'd love to see us play the Dutch again, but I'd rather see a game against them, England, France, Spain, or Italy than Scotland, who right now are at about the level of Wales and New Zealand. I'd also like to see games against Saudi Arabia (just so we could hand out an 8-0 beating, Germany style, preferably at the Swamp), Poland and Germany (to exorcise the demons of Korea), Nigeria, Senegal, and a rematch with Uruguay (since I don't remember the pre-WC friendly). Turkey and Cameroon would also be on the list but we'll be playing them in a few weeks (not that I'm not looking forward to the Brazil match, but we play them so often that it's not THAT big a deal anymore).
Senegal if... ...there could be a concert by major Senegalese musicians the night before. Senegal has the best music in Africa, if not the world. (And no boy bands!) Otherwise--England. Them bloody Poms are doging us.
I was just at the BBC 606 site. There was a thread stating all the reasons why US soccer is not really good and even a thread where they were making fun of the new stadium in LA. We must destroy England!!

Since the USNT schedule is pretty much set through the Gold Cup, how about... 8/20/03: at Czech Republic 9/10/03: at Norway 10/11/03: at Ukraine 11/15/03: at Portugal All these teams are available on these dates (FIFA international dates). If after these games the USNT is not ready for WCQs come the beginning of 2004, then they never will be.

All I can see is a few Americans getting very defensive at something a Cameroonian has said... and lots of England bashing. [edit] I've also noticed that when an anti-US comment is made an anti-English comment is made in return even before the nationality of the poster is known. This has made for amusing reading as time after time anti-English comments are made against Scots, Welsh and of course, the Cameroonian. There seems to be very few English people involved in these debates.
Let me get this straight, Wales and Scotland aren't England? WTF? Isn't this the equivalent of us Texans saying we are our own country.
I didn't read the thread titled "The USA isn't really good" thread. I just reacted! In the stadium thread they didn't understand why there was excitement over a little 27K seat stadium and they did not understand the US nats thing with the stadium, etc. and made fun of the name. It was more than I could bear.. I think it's reason enough for war even though I'm very much against war in almost any case!!! I'll see if I can find the links again.

The reason I picked England because other than the US, I am most familar with the English players. 3 of my favorite players, Beckham, Paul Scholes, and Ashley cole all play for England. Plus I think about it and the match ups just seem juicy. Boca and Pope vs Owen and Rooney and Heskey. Scholes, Becks, Butt, Joe Cole vs Reyna, O'Brien, and DMB and Convey...and Landon vs a very talented English backline. It'd be great fun.
