They played it Feb. 2nd in New Zealand and of course the ussoccer website has no information yet. Anyone know who won??
Shouldn't this be in USA Youth Soccer? Just realized this is has nothing to do with College Soccer... Pretty cool result, though!
This has plenty to do with college soccer. Some of these girls will be among the prime recruits in 2009. Plus, the win over Germany says something about the state of the game, which has been a big topic of discussion. Does anyone know about the coach of the team and what type of game he wants his girls to play?
The coach is Kazbek Tambi. He was just named coach at Seton Hall, I think. Coaches a fairly sophisticated brand of soccer and is good with kids. I think he's been a region 1 coach for years. You are a UP fan, he played with Biggs.
These kids ARE prime recruits... BUT -- this question isn't specifically about 2009 recruits OR college soccer. Furthermore, I believe three or four of these kids may be '92's. My point was that this info probably belongs in a thread more likely read by people following the U17 Youth National team -- and I thought the moderator might like the heads up. Out of curiousity -- and I'm not trying to be smart -- what, specifically, does this win over Germany say about the state of the college game?
It hopefully says something about the future of the state of the college game. Plus, the discussion under that thread has ranged pretty widely to cover the state of the US women's soccer game. The discussion could be under a different topic than women's college soccer, but my sense is that it will get more attention here. I leave that to the moderators to decide. I check both topics, so it doesn't really matter to me. The brief information Cliveworshipper posted about the coach also says something to me about the kind of soccer we might be seeing from the U-17 players as they arrive at college. That's why I asked. What I'm interested in is whether the emphasis, at that level, is on the long ball game or the short passing game. (That's what we used to call them when I was playing four decades ago. The debate them, by the way, was similar to the debate now.) Sorry if this is incoherent. It's late and I'm tired.
Though he is of course dealing with a whole range of skils and has relatively limited time with kids as they go through ODP and youth Nationals, Kaz teaches passing through the midfield and ball control. One of his players could step right into the lineup at UP or Santa clara with no problem whatsoever.
This definitely is relative to women' college soccer, as these players will be the future stars at the next level. Here is where some of them will be attending: Taylor Vancil, GK, LOUISVILLE Kelsey Wys, GK, FLORIDA STATE Zakiya Bywaters, D, Class of 2009 Crystal Dunn, D, Class of 2010 Kristie Mewis, D, BOSTON COLLEGE Julia Roberts, D, Class of 2009 Amber Brooks, M, NORTH CAROLINA Cloee Colohan, M, PORTLAND Olivia Klei, M, SANTA CLARA Sam Mewis, M, Class of 2010 Jenna Richmond, M, Class of 2010 Erika Tymrak, M, FLORIDA Tania Costa, F, PENN STATE Vicki DiMartino, F, BOSTON COLLEGE Lexi Harris, F, Class of 2010 Kealia Ohai, F, Class of 2010 Courtney Verloo, F, Class of 2009 Mary Gibson Wagner, F, Class of 2010
Geesh. The only reason I said ANYTHING about the U17 national team results not being in the right thread was to avert any criticism for straying off topic! In the 2008 recruits thread, it was suggested that someone break out a new 2009 verbal one. Everyone ignored that and began talking about college academic rankings... Go figure. ANYWAY -- rather than debating who's right about where this belongs, let's get back to sharing information...
