It will be the usual suspects. I forsee Brazil clearing everything in their path. With the creativity of Ronaldinho and Denilson and goals from Ronaldo and the 'on fire' Adriano they will surely score more goals than anybody else. Though Italy, England and a Tevez inspired Argentina will all be in with a shout. Dark horses-Czech Republic(if they qualify) -Holland -Sweden
Brasil or maybe the czech republic France is done, Germany needs 5 more years to field a great team, england always chokes, italy wont make the 2 round, and holland is holland(have they ever won something?).
You don't need a truly great team to win the world cup at home so I'll give Germany the top seed. Brazil, after that. Czecks third, cause they're quality and they're close to home. Argentina, cause they might get their act together. England fifth, cause Rooney might not turn out to be another Owen, and maybe Owen will be Owen. Italy sixth, cause they ought to always be ahead of Spain. Spain seventh, because they have players and if you don't rank them then you can't say they choked. USA eighth, cause they're my homies and I wanna put them in.
Either Argentina or Brazil will win it. Since England is improving, England may be in the final four, but the possibility is a bit low
Australia will go down with glory in their qualifier against the might of the 5th-placed South American nation. It will be a proud day for the nation, just like Iran, Uruguay and Gallipoli.
I've got to think that Germany is the favorite. Having home field advantage adds a lot to their talent pool. As for the USA, I really like their chances of making it all the way to the semi-finals. Don't discount my opinion or the USA's chances. These young boys, who were unexperienced for the most part in 2002 will now be seasoned veterans. On top of that, they have to prove to the entire world that 2002 was not a fluke! The only way that USA doesn't make it to the round of 16 is if they are placed into a group of death. What do you guys think?
Alot depends of in Germany gets its act together, they seem be in a trough between talented generations. The way they are currently playing, I do not think home field will be enough. As for the US. Considering it is in Europe and almost every group will have 2 euros, I can see the US not making the second round from several groups.
great thread. i cant wait for the greatest sporting event in the world to happen... infact its the greatest event period. anyway i see a load of teams in for a real chance. Brazil have been looking strong, but i see there defence the weak point. they play very nice football but i dont believe they will retain it. Argentina have many quality young players coming through and i see them better odds than brazil... who watched copa america final?... argentina were by far the better team. Holland/Spain/Portugal/ all these teams have quality young superstars i belive spain will make the semiz at least meeting holland... reyes, torres, fabregas & joagiun vs van persie, robben & van der vaart France will be no push overs, once they get a stable team playing they will be a force. the Sweedz and Denmark are starting to show the quality in past years Italy will have to respond to a poor euros. Germany got to the final last time and there at home so i believe they will do very well. USA??? erm..... dunno realy depends they wont win it but they could make the knock outs. but... not just that im English i do believe we will win the world cup. there is no team in the world with a defence as good as englands, Sol and Rio not frogeting John terry and woodgate at centre back with ashley cole, the best left back in the world. i believe now beckham is starting to play like his old self, along with gerrard and lampard that is one of the best midfields... not forgeting a spair place on the left to go to anyone maybe joe cole or someone? But its the forward two that are the key, i said it not long ago that owen will be reals best striker by christmas and he is now back on form once he gets two solid years at real along with young rooney that is a force. 40 years of sheer pain will end with victory in germany!!! football is coming home the year the home of football, Wembley is finished. engand vs spain in the final. arsenals fabregas and reyes with torres and joaquin will get them to the final by beating argentina. England will get there by beating brazil.
Brazil beats Italy in the finals Germany and Netherlands make it to the semis. England, Portugal, Argentina and France reach the final 8. USA crashes out in the round of 16, as I don't see them going much further in europe, but who knows.
this is how its set-up: brazil vs argentina in the quarterfinals italy vs portugal in the other quarterfinals with brazil vs italy in the finals with italy finally winning it all.forza italia! ciao top players: cassano tevez adriano ronaldo/B]
you're kidding yourself if you don't think germany will be in the final one way or another. Portugal didn't play all that well at the EURO and it was only home field and the luck of the draw that took them through to their greatest failure at the final. (no, it was not the ref's fault that England lost) I think being in europe will shift the odds in favor of the european nations. I would expect the final four to be: Germany brasil or argentina England czechs or a surprise team that plays the way Greece did in 2004 My beloved USMNT will be lucky to equal thier 2002 standing and I hate myself for asying this but I don't see it happening. but in 2010...
Who in the hell knows ?!? Just wait until about April of 2006 where you find out who makes the squad, and who is missing due to suspension or injury. Then you could make possible predictions.
Germany will do very good since they are playin' on home territory but i dont think they can win it. The team that will win will probably be the one with the fewest injuries.
Brazil or Germany, obviously. Since it's back in the old country, this tourneys succesful teams are sure to have a European flavor. I'm looking towards the Czechs and Swedes to shine, pending somewhat favorable draws. As for the USA, the goal still is the second round, and I'll be friggin thrilled if we do it. I'm saving the crazy expectations for 2010.
Even though Germany is kind of in a transitional phase right now, I still think being at home will prove to be huge advantage. If they play a South American team (Brazil or Argentina) I think they will lose, if they match up with another Euro team, I think they will win. I think Sweden and Czech will do really well, and England might go far too (even though I think they are somewhat overrated, they impressed me in the Euros). Holland, Spain, and Portugal will choke as usual. As for non-Euro/S.American teams, I think Mexico will go farthest. The US will be fortunate to get out of their group (they always have trouble in Europe WCs). I don't see any Asian or African teams making big splashes. Of course, this is assuming all of these other teams qualify.
Brazil or Argentina will win it, Czech Republic, Holland and Germany (Hosts) are probably the most likely European team to win it Italy - Struggled very badly in recent months Spain - Never show their quality in major tournaments France - Not the same team as they were a few years ago England - Most likely to be knocked out in a penalty shootout Teams like Portugal, Denmark, Sweden and possibly Croatia might do well but they wont win it
I think that the difference can be the talent and experience of coachs. Great teams with many stars had failed many times in the past. In the final rounds, quarterfinals, semifinals or finals, all teams are good and have good players, the coach can to do the difference. Another important factor is the experience as team, a same coach for many years probably will be more succesful than a new coach with a new team. Since 1962, only Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Italy, England, Holland and France play the finals. ------- My ranking. 1º Teams with the same coach. - Brazil : Parreira WC Champion 1994. Coach since 2002, Copa America Champion 2004. - England : Eriksson. Quarterfinalist in WC 2002 and Euro 2004. 2º New coachs. All of them start after Euro 2004. Every new coach needs time in order to create wonderful teams. Now, all of them have good players, but, the coaches need looking for the perfect idea, the perfect players and other things. Some results are examples of this situation. Maybe in 2010 with the same coach could be world champions. Coachs with experience in clubs. - Italy : Lippi. Italy 0-1 Slovenia. Coachs with experience in youth national teams. - Argentina : Pekerman. Argentina 1-1 Chile. - France : Domenech. France 0-0 Israel. Coachs without experience. - Holland : Van Basten. Holland 2-2 Macedonia. - Germany : Klinsmann. Only play friendlies games. --------- In my opinion, the 4 best teams will be : - Champions : Brazil. - 2º and 3º place : England or Germany (host). - 4º place : Another team from Europe. --------- In the last world cups, at least one of the semifinalists was an european team non-favorite. All of these teams finished 3º or 4º. - 2002 : Turkey. - 1998 : Croatia. - 1994 : Sweden and Bulgary. Spain, Czech Republic or another european team like them can be the 4º semifinalist.
I am amazed that people here have so much confidence in Germany, given that we haven't performed very well lately. I hope Germany win it, but I very much doubt it. Though there are actually quite a few young players coming through now. The Czech Republic were the best team in Euro 2004, but who can tell what will happen with Nedved retiring and Koller being too old. It'll all be up to Baros and Rosicky. No idea how they'll do in two years, I wouldn't put my money on them. Italy are always up there of course, but who knows... can't say they impress me very much at the moment. Based on talented young players, Brazil should win it again. Argentina seem to have some talent as well, but I haven't seen them play for a while. England certainly have the talent as well. Hope Rooney lives up to all the hype. If they play with the right attitude they might have a great chance. Holland also have lots of talented players. Not sure where they are going at the moment, it's all changing right now. I have a worrisome feeling they might win it though, but maybe that's just paranoia. If I had to bet right now I'd put my money on Holland, England or Brazil, with Germany as dark horses if they miraculously discover a world class striker in the next two years.
That you're way too optimistic. We don't need to be in the group of death to get knocked out. We just need to be in a group with two other strong teams, no better than us, who have a little more luck than we do. Don't forget how lucky we were to make the knockout rounds in Korea. We played well once we got there, but we weren't all that convincing getting there.
teams to be knocked out in the first round with no points: Estados Unidos de América Quarterfinals Argentina: Good at cheating which makes them do well. Francia: Not the best team anymore but should reach Quarters. República Checa: Are a great team but I doubt will win it. Italia: Always strong and capable Semifinal Inglaterra: Probably have their best team since I can remember, although I doubt they will ever win the World Cup again, they haven't got the winning mentality. Brasil: Always have the easiest draw out of all others and so have a advantage before the tournament even kicks off, plus they have the worlds best player Ronaldinho. Final Alemania: Home advantage, and do well in tournaments no matter how bad they are. Champions España: In 2 years will be the best team in the world without a doubt.
I believe we got farther than Spain in the last world cup and I have no doubt we will again. For some reason I've had a feeling that we'd be in Spains group. It'd be fun.
