Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Yea, but Mexico can't send their current best team because Concacaf wants them to play in their tournament.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores If they make the finals they get to play in La Bombonera My predictions: Boca v. LDUQ Santos v. Sao Paolo Though It would be interesting to see America advance and have 4 semifinalists from 4 different countries
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores But Chivas Guadalajara finished first in Mexico, what you call 'El Superlider'. And they participated in this year's Libertadores.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores That's ok, we'll go to Liniers and take over 'El Fortin' and win there.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Well they somehow got lucky to be superlider, but they still suck. I was thinking how far Pachuca that won the Sudamericana would've gone in the Libertadores. I think they would've done real good.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Which is the Mexican team that you think would have the best shot at winning Copa Libertadores this year?
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores The only good thing about playing in Liniers is that the fans spend less time travelling
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Don't be too impressed... and yet, they would still be faced with a final with teams from just one team, if it ended up the way this year's UEFA Champions' Leage went... Ironically, an MLS side would not have that problem, since they wouldn't have to worry about relegation if their domestic form suffered from such competition - though it can still be embarrassing to go from seeing how much of an effort D.C. United put in against Pachuca, yet seeming much more flat so far in the 2008 regular season... To give a comparison with the UEFA Champions' League, Liverpool have not won the Premiership in quite some time, yet were still able to win the Champions' League in 2004/05 - and Manchester United won their second European Cup having qualified for the tournament without actually winning the Premiership the year before. (That United were the first team to have won the UEFA CL without having won either their domestic league the year before, or having returned to the competiton as defending European champions) So it's not unprecedented for a domestic also-ran to be a continental champion...
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores What best teams? 5 of the top 8 are out already, and the semifinals may have only 1 of the top 8.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores I like Santos. You probably haven't seen any of their games, but they're a complete team in my opinion. Unfortunately Mexico's federation is stupid and they choose teams to play in Libertadores by way of invitation. Not to mention that those that are invited have to play unnecessary games (Interliga) to qualify to Libertadores.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores If we are talking about Mexican teams which, for one reason or another, didn't or couldn't go, what about Pachuca? The tuzos wrapped up the CCC convincingly, but would they have gotten at least as far as América and Atlas have in this year's Libertadores?
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores At least they have the right name to win Libertadores. Although, it's been quite a while since the other Santos won it.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores In fact, it's the norm. It is very difficult for any club to win both the domestic title and Libertadores. Teams that go far in Libertadores usually are at a disadvantage in the local league, and are less likely to win it.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores correction: Liverpool have NEVER won the premiership. they last won the old first division in 1990 IIRC. id have a hard time comparing atlas to liverpool. Everton would be a more accurate description, the local rival to a giant, a traditional team thats always in the top flight, yet have never won anything in my lifetime (i know everton won the FA cup and charity shield in the early nineties, but im making a point.) Liverpool is a team that when someone says "I think they'll take the UCL" you don't give them an "are you retarded?" look. Atlas is that team.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores No excuse there. we lost at home (and away) to cucuta and that cost us our ticket up. its embarrasing. its worth noting that the "curse of the Superlider" is that teams that get the honor, rarely win a title...
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores My pick would be San Luis. the two morenos and coudet tore it up this yr. as did luna perez and monjaraz Arias definately built a great team. too bad it will be raided by their Big Brother over the summer.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores pachuca's been stumbling this tournament. They're not quite what they were when the pulled off "the quadruple" (haha) Copa Sud 07, Clausura 07, CCC 07, Superliga07 EDIT: I swear I'll use the Multi Quote feature form now on...
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores An ARgentinian team has never won both the Libertadores and the league title at the same time. Never
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Ya but its Chivas You know the team with 1 international title in their history. They are like San Lorenzo or Arsenal (Eng) very good domestically and losers internationally. If you were to pick a team right now in Mexico that could win the thing I'd go with Santos Laguna.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores I think the San Lorenzo - Quito game can go both ways, in fact I have a feeling that it will end up being decided on penalties.
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores why no one is given any credit to el pelado diaz y su banda? CASL...... LDU?
Re: Final Eight: Who will win Copa Libertadores Club Atletico Sin Libertadores. What else is there to say?
