all the coaches that are available and they choose a broadcaster,,,,and not even a good one. Is heaps the guy you want to take this team to the next level? Nope, he is just a lapdog and that is what they were looking for. I can see the interview now: Brian - Given the job what would be your plans for the upcoming season Jay - what do you want them to be? Brian - you're hired
You wanted attacking football? Here's a defender You wanted a new outlook? Here's an in-house guy who's last other team was the Fusion You wanted experience? This guy hasn't even coached a youth team You want someone who'll stand up to the Krafts? On TV, this guy can't even comment on how shitty we look You want someone who can recognize the faults of the team? Well well, have we a surprise for you
lol, hilarious. BUT glass half full, think about the Ben Olsen experiment. Once he became head coach it almost seemed like his whole demeanor changed and was very serious about making dc united better. not to mention he was a risk taker. Maybe a lil magic will come through thinking in that mindset. However I do have to say this really makes it seem like the FO didn't make an effort in trying to search for a coach AT ALL.
They apparently brought in 12 candidates, including Jay. I wonder who the other 11 were? Jay Heaps getting the job was a cruel, nightmare scenario, inside joke on this board. I can't believe it's really going to happen. Never underestimate stupidity.
There are two possibilities with this statement: a) you either don't do enough arguing during your day job and enjoy being contrarian or ... b) you genuinely believe Jay Heaps is the right man for the job at this critical juncture in Revolution history. Whichever it is...each to his own. God Bless America.
thomas dooley sought an interview for the job, whether the resident geniuses had time to interview a candidate who had all of the right attributes is unknown
On the bright side, I learned that Jay's real name is John. Wait, that's not the bright side at all. Damn it, there is no bright side!
That is the only (and not insignificant upside). Unless of course Kraft tries to save even more money by keeping Jay in the booth to be the first announcer/manager in history. No doubt we'll be seeing even more of Tierney and his "educated left foot". This is just so depressing...
I think we might just see this. We will also still hear about forwards "opening up their hips" a pitty that just as heaps' commentary was improving he is gone. Now that the coaching question is dead, the most important question we can ask is "who will the revs new color announcer be?" I think it will be Steve Nicol. Swap-a-roo. I also think this question deserves its own thread.
Ok, I just came to BS for today, and you are telling me that Jay Heaps is going to be the new Manager for the Revs.???? Please, somebody, anybody, tell me this is some sort of bad joke ....
A lot of posters here would agree that the Revs coaching job comes with some constraints that make the job less than desireable to all coaching candidates. People have asked "Why would SOME_NAME_COACH want to take the Revs job given the constraints imposed by KSG?" This job will give you experience, but might not allow you to do everything you think is necessary to be successful. That is part of the give and take that must be weighed when interviewing and accepting a job coaching the Revs. The same is true of the Revs TV team. It is my opinion that the PBP guy and the color guy are both operating under some constraints such as you cannot criticize KSG, the FO, the coach, or the players. I love homer TV personalities (for example: Jack Edwards), but their has to be some objectivity or the person in question loses some of their credibility. The Revs color man job will offer a person wanting to get into the business the opportunity to gain experience, but they will be on a very short lease when it comes to objectively calling out the Revs in any way. Do you really think that Twellman would want this job given the fact that he has a good gig in Philly, gets on ESPN often, and would have to bite his tongue/stick to the company line/operate within KSG constraints?
I seem to be in the minority here. I understand the choice, since the Krafts are so damned cheap. But I also understand it for other reasons, one being, he knows the breadth and depth of the condition of this shit show. He knows the culture, so maybe he knows how to get us out of this mess. Plus, obviously most of you don't think so, but my gut says he can coach. I'm ok with this.
