Between the two attacking players, I would choose Ralston, just based on playing style. Twellman was essentially a target striker. This team needs to move away from the direct attack and early balls into the box. Ralston was much more creative. That is all just based on how they were as players. Who knows what they are like as coaches.
Didn't Hammet get into a fistfight with one of his players in Chicago? I can't say I would blame him, as anyone wearing a Chicago jersey deserves a punch to the face just because...
Do Twellman and Heaps even have their coaching licenses? I'd never heard either one of them mention anything about wanting to coach or being on that path.
The USSF gives out those licenses. I'm sure we could pull some strings with the USSF President and get lisences, post-haste
I did find it interesting that during the interview with Lemieux, BB updated it to 5 days (so, Wednesday?). Still, I don't see why they couldn't announce it as Ralston and still let him go back and finish up MLS Cup.
As I noted in one of the threads, Twellman is a featured clinicians at the NSCAA Convention in Jan. Seems to be indication that he is thinking of coaching. Not sure of any licensing
I'm sure others noticed Bilello's tweet about hiring a stats analyst. Seeing how this was done before hiring a coach, it leads me to two conclusions. One, the new coach will be subordinate to the GM. He'll have input in hiring, but Burns will have the last word. He'll be the type of coach who's willing to use stats in running the team. Names? Not a clue.
This is the first positive step since Nicol was let go. Instead of shuffling the staff they already have, they are actually going to add a new position?
Interesting to see some of the people that Bilello follows on twitter. These are just the folks who mention statistics or analysis in their twitter bios. I noticed that he started following some stats folks the other day (Twitter tells you when people you follow start following others). Kevin Davies was rumored to be coming into the league last year--get a package deal. At least we can play some ugly, effective soccer instead of just ugly soccer. But, uh, no--I don't see Big Sam letting Mike Burns tell him who he can and can't sign.
Has anyone heard anything on the statuses of Stevie Myles, Remi Roy, or Peter Fuller? I would assume a new coach would come in and be able to replace them all with their own staff. I'm also interested to see if Sean Kupiec keeps his job with the new coach.
Hahahahaha I'm laughing and crying at the same time (ok, mainly just laughing). Here comes a season of brutal, route 1, heinous soccer. All the while Jay will be informing fourth officials that the 78th minute yellow card given by the head ref was "too early". I might watch for the comedic value. Lol go Revs!
