Suppose Buddle is not coming back? I don't think Angel is going to cut it, he is way too old and LA Galaxy don't have any decent striker. This situation is alot similar to what Real Madrid is going through now....

    lol what?

I honestly do not know who we can get. I think Bruce said he will play LD as a striker. We don't even have JPA yet so we should be worried. What if he decides to go to some european team? We need a big guy. Somehow we should pursue connor casey. We need a target man. Maybe go after John Carew from my beloved Aston Villa. He is for sale and would be great for us. Basically if we dont have some tall guy up front, half of Beckham's talents are wasted. Also, I hear Kenny Cooper is up for sale and picking him up would be perfect. Him and JPA up top would be scary.

Anyone else up for a Robbie Keane bid? If we had enough money for Dinho, we certainly have enough money for Robbie.

Kenny Cooper would be good, and also I think Shane Smeltz who just moved to Turkey from starring in the Aussie league is looking for a new club. He's one of New Zealand's best players too.

Still no official word on Buddle. This the only German article I could find, but it's based on Ives tweet.

I wish we had Real Madrid's forward woes. I would take an out of form Karim Benzema any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I also think that Robbie Keane would be a coup for Galaxy. I think he would perform really well in MLS, but seriously doubt he would want to come.

Michael Owen will likely be available? Nah, MLS would eat him alive.

How about Jeff Cunningham? The mls doesn't have too many good forwards

I really hope buddle is leaving on his own accord because he wants to experience europe but if it turns out that we end up signing angel to a contract that would've kept buddle here as in just under dp I'm gonna be pissed id take buddle at 29 over a 36 yr old angel anyday I'm sure that's not what happens tho right

If we still had buddle I wouldn't have paid angel more than 200 k but now without edson he can drive a harder bargain I'm still gonna cap it at 300 k 1 yr with option

The LD at striker is probably going to go something like this. He'll play there for 3 to 5 games starved for service. Bruce will move him back to midfield, but just late in games to try to switch things up. By game 10 he'll be starting in midfield again.

I just don't think it's going to work at forward. Defenders draped all over his back will be.

No thanks on the cooper angel pairing jeezus that would be slow I hope we can do some scouting and find a young fast striker we can pair angel up with id like to keep ld on the wings mls cbs aren't that good but they are very physical and can hack the shit out of strikers so let's leave ld away from them shall we. Robbie keane would be great but this guy is wanted all over europe I just can't see him leaving unless the money is crazy which it won't be. Charlie davies loan would be cool as well as picking up herc from pachuca fo150 to 200 k a yr.

100% agree. And this is exactly what happened at the end of the season - which is why he was moved back. I don't understand why we would repeat this experiment since it already failed once unless Stephens/Lopez are suddenly amazing.

LD up top didn't work because he never saw the ball, increasingly got frustrated and drifted towards the middle - effectively playing mid. Our LM replacement wasn't good enough, and Becks would constantly lob hoofballs. Our creative force vanished.

We need another striker. I would absolutely take Robbie Keane but it sounds like he is going to another EPL club. One could also dig around the tier 2 leagues: I watch the Turkish team and there are strikers in Turkey we could absolutely take. The Russian or Scandinavian leagues may also have some potentials...

I'm pretty worried about us relative to NY - who seems like they are making a lot of the right moves. Read that Henry is training with Arsenal in the offseason on ESPN.com - kudos to him (and an example of how Beckham should have handled it - Henry is clearly committed to NY).

Buddle will likely return and we can always through Landon up top if needed. I am however curious as to how the "Edson situation" is similar to Real Madrid's Forward situation. Gonzalo Higuaín is hurt, not trying out with another team. :D

Unless we can somehow land Jose Torres. He's open to coming home and not really playing for Pachuca. Not sure where we would be on the allocation list to get him but it sure would be nice to have he and becks feeding LD and JPA.

Whaaat? Juan Pablo Angel, who is not even on the LA Galaxy team, is the best finisher in MLS and can still hold the ball with the best of them (in MLS). He is older but still managed 14 goals last season with mediocre service at best and his record in MLS is unmatched. Now imagine his finishing skills while receiving passes from David Beckham and Landon Donovan? Assuming he signs with the team, I'd start him up top over any other forward in the MLS (including Donovan) any day of the week.

And how is this situation even remotely similar to Real Madrid's?

LD is just more suited to midfield at this point of his career. We've seen it over and over for several years. Only when Gullit put him up top did he really produce at forward, but the whole team was tilted toward the offense at the expense of defense.

On the plus side, if LD has another 20 goal year, he'll get close to or pass Jaime Moreno for the MLS record.

I don't know. Bruce did sign Berhalter. He likes experience.

    AH! NOOOOO! WHY BUDDLE, WHY?!?!?!

That's some balls... I was looking for any information I could find about the new jersey and stumbled upon the article.... so sad.

I guess JPA in his place would be cool... but he's no Buddle.

Berhalter as boss in defense and Möhlmann as new general in midfield. That would make for some very interesting games to say the least

It's obvious now that we need to draft well. Currently our entire signed strikeforce consists of Mike Magee, Jovan Kirovski and Bryan Jordan. Magee hasn't been firing at all lately, and Kiro and Jordan haven't been playing as strikers, so we're in a bind. Assuming Angel signs, that leaves us with a need for a MINIMUM of two strikers from the draft to support him, and then bring one experienced striker in from another club.

Looking at the draft; one of them needs to be a tall, Alan Gordon-type who is good in the air, strong, and can hold the ball up, allowing Angel to make runs and play off him. Both of them need to be young and hungry.

I agree that Kenny Cooper would be ideal as he has that kind of presence, but I don't think we're at the top of the allocation list for returning players, so Portland would have first refusal (I think). I'm really struggling to think of a player who I could see coming in from abroad and doing the job. It's a shame we can't maybe tempt Marcus Tracy to come home from Denmark. Or Jozy Altidore, who is still warming the bench in Spain.

Isn't Angel a target forward? Wasn't that why Simon Borg was bitching that we drafted him? Again, Landon Donovan will play forward, but I would play him behind JPA so that there is some space to work for him.

We need a Left winger and 2 strikers in a major, major way. I wonder if Bruce makes trade. We can't rely on rookie strikers, especially if JPA doesn't sign.

Someone keeps mentioning this Lopez character as a winger, but has anyone seen him play? I'll assume that he is the quality of Eduardo Dominguez until proven otherwise.
