We all want every MLS team to have their own stadium. If you didn't, you wouldn't be here! So what do you think the stadium situation will be by 2006? Here are my predictions: In a SSS: Columbus and LA (duh) Dallas, Metros, DC, Chicago One of the two expansion teams Sharing with NFL: Colorado, New England, Kansas City the othe expansion team (Houston, Philly, or Seattle) Still in Spartan: San Jose
SSS: CLB, LA, Metro, Tulsa, Portland, Dallas/Frisco, Chicago Remain: DC, San Jose, KC, Colorado, New England
Just a technicality, as we know Chicago is looking, but they could not be in a new stadium until 2007. That is one of the years allowed for them to break their lease with SF.
I have only heard about SSS efforts for the Metrostars and DC. I know Columbus, LA, and soon, Dallas will have them. I thought that NE, Chicago, KC, and Colorado would keep playing in NFL stadiums. DC's effort is in bad shape. The people in charge of the district's side of the negotiations seem to be satisfied with the status quo. I'm afraid that means that the team will have to head for the 'burbs. And that means that DCU is starting from square one, so it will be many years before we get a SSS. A guess nothing is happening in San Jose. That's too bad. So in 2006, I see: SSS: Col, LA, Dal NFL: NE, CO, KC, Chi, Metros RFK: DC Spartan: SJ
Apprently, something may be brewing on the stadium front in San Jose after all. -G
La Galaxy (2003) Columbus Crew (3 years ago about?) (1999) Dallas Burn 2005 NY/NJ Metrostars 2006 (vote on July 1, expected to pass, construction beginning in spring 2004, completion for the 2006 season) That is four SSS I am sure of assuming that the vote will pass on July 1 for the Metrostars. AEG contributing 30 mil, and the city (i forgot the number, but either 40, 50 mil in bonds). The city will own the stadium, but the Metrostars will operate it. As for expansion clubs, ONE of the two I am sure will have its own SSS. Either Rochester or Oklahoma City. They are buiding one in Rochester, and in OKC they are renovating/constructing. (www.MLSinOKC.com) If MLS expands to both OKC and Rochester, they it will have a total of 6 SSS by 2006. The upside, both OKC and Rochester have SSS, and owners/investers. The downside: small market for TV as compared to Seattle, Philly or Houston. Upside: don't have to rent the stadium for around $100,000 a game. Seattle, Philly = no investors thus far. Paul Allen, please get your rich *** and invest in Seattle MLS. I want a team near my town................nowwwwww (or in 2005).....
My prediction for 2006: SSS - LA, Dallas, Columbus, NY/NJ, Rochester SSS Plans in advanced stages - Chicago, DC NFL - Colorado, KC, NE, Houston Still in Spartan - SJ
Posted by Bonji: SSS (not in one currently): Col, Dallas, DC, NY, Chi., Any expansion. ///////////////////////////////////////////// Correct me if I am wrong but Kansas City does not play in a SSS, neither is SJ, or New England Rev. The only one that is truly in an SSS right now is LA Galaxy with Home Depot Center and Columbus Crew in Columbus Crew Stadium. (both built specifically for soccer). Dallas will get one in 2005 (no idea what will be its name), and NY/NJ in 2006 called Harrison Stadium. I have no idea what two cities will get choosen for expansion. Though I wanted it to be Seattle, it will not happen, (no investor). If I have to bet, I would put my money on Rochester and OKC. I am 100% confident that one of the two will get choosen. Time will prove me right (or wrong). If both are chosen for the year 2005. Both will have a soccer specific stadium by then. one more note. besiide soccer specific stadium. (SSS=stars & stripes stadium or stars & stripes soccer). (plagarize that from someone. forgot the source).
I really hope you're right, but they still have a long way to go to get their new stadium. And don't forget - the Harrison stadium is already in the voting stage and still won't be ready until 2006, so even if San Jose gets a new stadium, I doubt it'd be ready by 2006, and this thread is only talking about that specific time.
Why would they spend all that money on a stadium in an area that doesnt support the team? They should move san jose to a new area that will support the team and build a stadium there.
Exactly, move the Quakes to the Seattle area and build a stadium in Midland (the site where the Seattle Sounders is interested in building a SSS for their A-League team. Midland is about 10/15 minutes drive from Seattle. AEG fund 1/3, Sounders investors 1/3, and the town 1/3. Big TV market. Lot of soccer fans. Huge Soccer history. Name the team the Seattle Sounders and you will have lot of loyal fans who will flock to the stadium to see the game. (p.s. I am using the quote thingie, thank Moderator)
Because the negotiations for a stadium between AEG and SJSU are going on and there's not a damn thing you can do about it... so HA!       The Earthquakes aren't leaving San Jose anytime soon, nor should they. -G
Just like how the rest of the league is really tearing up the attendance numbers?       Nope, Seattle will just have to get its own MLS team... the Quakes aren't going anywhere, nor should they. -G
based on what should they stay in San Jose? SJ has worse attendance then both Tampa and Miami and they were both folded. Move em to the pacific northwest they will certainly draw more than 8k to a game on a Saturday night.
Move San Jose I think rather than leaving the Earthquakes in San Jose to please Goodsport and the other six Quakes supporters, the seven of them could just move with the team when they go to Seattle or wherever it is they go.
Re: Move San Jose       It would be pretty odd for us to move with the team to the new or renovated stadium in San Jose (California, not Costa Rica) in a few years... but then again, with the high price of housing here, living in the new San Jose stadium may not be such a bad idea. -G
