Just throw some ideas around... I can't remember who is injured and who isn't... so please excuse any mistakes. Keepers: Kenny Stamatopoulos, Pat Onstad?, Daniel Fernandez? Defence: Jason De Vos?, Kevin McKenna, Chris Pozniak, Carl Fletcher?, Richard Hastings Midfield: Jason Bent, Jim Brennan, Julian de Guzman, Atiba Hutchinson, Daniel Imhof?, Mike Klukowski?, Tam Nsaliwa?, Forwards: Paul Stalteri, Tomas Radzinski?, Davide Xausa?, Carlo Corrazin?, Paul Peschosilido?, Rob Friend? What about Marco Reda? Do you think he will get called up? It will be interesting to see what keepers and strikers Holger calls up.
Pesh is doing well. Maybe he can get a call-up. Also, Reda should get a call-up as well. He has been doing well with his team.
Here is the current list (as far as I know) Maycoll Canizalez (Werder Bremen Reserves) Julian de Guzman (Hannover 96) Jeremy Sheppard (Hertha Berlin Youth) Paul Stalteri (Werder Bremen) Roman Tulis Jr (1860 Munich Youth) Tam Nsaliwa (Saarbrucken) Victor Oppong (Saarbrucken Reserves) I am not too sure on the status of Tulis Jr or Sheppard. Back to Pesch, I certainly hope that he gets a chance with the national team. His form has been good lately, and Holger should give him a shot.
I doubt we'll see De Vos because he is resting a broken foot, in the hopes that it will heal rather than have to undergo surgery. I would suspect Holger would rather have him heal now & be ready for the Gold Cup. I do think its time we saw Marco Reda at the back in a central defender role. Perhaps alongside one of McKenna (who is being played more and more as a striker by Hearts these days) or Fenwick. I wouldn't mind seeing a Pesch & Radz combo up front with De Rosario injured. We won't likely see Mike Klukowski as he will be playing in the Belgian Cup final for La Louviere on the same day. I expect he'll make the Gold Cup squad though. I expect Maycoll Canizalez to get the call & perhaps Iain Hume (if he wasn't injured too badly in his match on the weekend). The youngsters seem to be progressing nicely for their respective clubs. I would like to see Bent once again for Canada, but perhaps tried in the right back position, the one which has caused us the most trouble recently IMO. With Atiba, Imhof, Stalteri, Brennan, De Guzman & Nsaliwa available we'll have enough people to choose from in the midfield as it is.
Re: Re: Who will get called up for the friendly against Germany? Too bad about Klukowski. I was looking forward to seeing him play. However, it would be good for his development if he can lead his team to the UEFA Cup.
Jeremy Shepherd is still with Hertha Berlin's U18/19s as he was playing within the last 2 weeks. I have yet to see hide nor hair of Roman Tulis Jr on any of the 1860 Munich youth teams; I doubt he's there as the club has exceptional coverage of their youth teams on the web (see www.jungloewen.de) and he is not with any of the listed teams.
There is a good chance that Ante Jazic will be called up for Canada. He hasn't played with the Canadian team since 1999 (I think), and it is nice to see him get a shot again. Apparently, Holger is having problems getting players for the Germany game. Most of the players in Sweden/Norway and the United Kingdom will probably be unavailable. This makes me wonder, who is left? Will he call up a few A-League players?
Yes, and we are probably looking at Pat Onstad as our starting keeper. I wonder if Theo Zager will get his first call-up to the national team? I don't think he will for the Germany game, but he may get his shot in the near future. I should also mention that many of the UK based players have requested time-off because of they need a rest after the season.
Yes, recovering from a hamstring pull. Hopefully he'll be recoverd by the time the Gold Cup rolls around. As for the starting line-up against Germany, my guess now is..... GK - Onstad D - Fletcher, Fenwick, Menezes, Hastings M - Nash, Imhof, De Guzman Jazic F - Stalteri, Canizalez Or maybe start Nash up front & Nsaliwa on the right side of midfield, or MC2 on the right. De Guzman is another possibility. I think Stalteri will play the same role as he did against Libya, which was practically a striker role. All other strikers we have used in the past few years (& there's actually been quite a few - McKenna, Pesch, Corazzin, Radzinski, Friend, Xausa, De Rosario) are all unavailable for various reasons. Otherwise we are looking at an A-league striker up front. Montreal isn't using any Cdn strikers, not sure about Calgary, leaving Jason Jordan & Ali Ngon as the likeliest candidates if A-league strikers were to be chosen. It will be interesting & exciting.....but a shame that we won't have anywhere near our best team in such a friendly.
My feeling is that Franks & Sutton are probably ahead of him in the pecking order for a call-up, despite current speculation in the Toronto media.
Dasovic has been called up for the Germany game. He is coming out of 'international' retirement. I wonder if this will be just for the one game, or could we see him in the Gold Cup? I don't think we will see him in the Gold Cup, but then again... I didn't think he would be called up for the game against Germany.
Before all the anti-Dasovic comments come out he's 34 not 35 as I've heard people state. He won't be 35 until december 5th. Theo Zagar is overrated.
Re: Gabriel Gervais Has he ever played with any Canadian national teams? I think he has only played with the Canadian national beach soccer team...
Is this report to be trusted? He's out of shape-see photo from last game: http://www.whitecapssoccer.com/matchnight/photos/may11/pages/a15.jpg
It was apparently mentioned on Sportsnet - both Jordan & Dasovic from the Whitecaps. Nash from the Impact is also expected to be called.
Greg Sutton (Montreal GK) will probably get called into the squad. Stalteri, De Guzman, and Nsaliwa will also probably get called up. Holger said Pesch wants to concentrate on his club. However, in April Pesch said he wants to be a part of the national team again. Here is the article about all of the injuries facing the Canadian team. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Soccer/2003/05/16/89098-cp.html So this is who we have so far... Onstad Sutton Stalteri De Guzman Nasliwa Jordan Dasovic Nash Jazic Imhoff (?) I am probably missing a few players... Injured players who are not available... Radzinski (probably) Hirschfield McKenna De Rosario Corazzin (foot surgery) De Vos
A good bet to add Fenwick, Menezes, Fletcher, Hastings & Canizalez to the list of players to be called. That leaves 1 player missing for a 16 man squad. A Jazic-Stalteri-Imhof-De Guzman-Nsaliwa midfield should be solid. I wonder if Nash & Jordan will play up front.
"It's been quite a week for Vancouver Whitecaps' striker Jason Jordan and defender Nick Dasovic. Named to A-League soccer's team of the week for their performances in the Whitecaps' 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers last Sunday, Jordan and Dasovic have been selected to the Canadian senior national team for its June 1 exhibition game against Germany." http://www.canada.com/vancouver/sports/story.asp?id=5D07D26A-7A0B-488F-9106-82EE4853F938
