I clicked the link on the Chivas page and it went to a website for something that appears to be a convenience store. I just tried to load it and it wouldn't load but the link had a .mx address and this is the logo: Among other things, yes. And thanks for the info.
Extra is like 7-Eleven in Mexico. It's owned by Modelo/Corona and there are no stores in the USA at all. Which makes me think that MLS aren't allowing beer makers to be the primary kit sponsor... otherwise, why wouldn't they put Corona on the kit? Correct me if I'm wrong but in the early days of MLS weren't there Corona ads on the back of jerseys?
its not beer makers that arent allowed. la had budweiser once on their back of the jersey. its hard alcohol corona is ok, but not 1800 Jose Cuervo. rogue would be ok, but not Jack Daniels
Budweiser yes. Budweiser was an official sponsor of MLS. As such, and I'm not sure, there would most likely be some sort of clause in Bud's contract with MLS preventing other beer companies from being featured on uniforms. Also, for those hoping for Playstation, I believe that X-Box also became a league sponsor in addition to Seattle's jersey sponsor. I could be wrong, but I would imagine that there would be some sort of clause in that contract too preventing competitors from becoming jersey sponsors. Now I'm going to contradict myself. I know that Glidden and CoMex were jersey sponsors at the same time with Columbus and Chivas USA respectively. Glidden is the official paint of MLS. I think, and again, I could be wrong, the loophole is that CoMex paints are only sold in Mexico, while their U.S. division Frazee paints are sold here. As sucsh, Chivas USA featured CoMex on their jerseys because that wasn't a Glidden competitor, but pimped Frazee in stadium and on local broadcasts. So there's that.
sorry for changing the subject, but anyone know when the new jersey and kit sponsor will be released?
Sounds like you're talking about the state of New Jersey. You should have said kits so it wouldn't sound like you're talking about that wretched state.
Haha, anyway. MLS Insider just tweeted: "Portland Timbers will make an announcement at Portland International Airport on Thursday morning involving the team’s 2011 jersey sponsor." Any ideas?
The shirt sponsor is 90% Alaska Air according to sources "on the ground" here. Whether this thing at the airport is related to Alaska and the kit sponsor, I have no idea, but it's probably a good bet.
All indications for the past week have been Alaska Airlines. [At least on SCUSA] http://www.soccercityusa.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1282546271 See also: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=929183&page=10
Congrats Portland! http://www.oregonlive.com/timbers/in...ka_airlin.html Alaska Airlines is officially your Kit sponsor!
The good news is that Portland's fanbase will soon be able to see Russia from their houses Kidding aside, how many cities in MLS does Alaska Air fly to from Portland? Perhaps the fans in PDX could get a better travel-deal to away-games using them?
Alaska flies from PDX to Boston, Chicago, Denver, LA, and San Jose. Their sister carrier Horizon adds Seattle and Vancouver.
Considering each and every MLS kit has an adidas logo, including Seattle, I'd counter that with: Owned by Portland, for the next 8 years?
