Screw spending $$$$$$$ on over the hill, washed up Euro's (exception=Morrow/Burn) if I was one of any of the coaches/GM's for teams out of the playoffs, I'd be on the next plane to Guat, Honduras, ElSal, etc. scouring the earth for the next Lil Fishee. I was watching Republica Deportiva Sunday and they now have a whole segment for Central American leagues. It was pretty cool. I couldn't help to think who's the next estrella to come to MLS. They interviewed Ruiz and he made it seem like Guats think of MLS and US in general as the promise land. They asked him if was going to go back to play professionally again and he was like are you crazy! No seriously he said only to play for the national team. I;m sure he's starting to dream about the $$$$$$$$$$ across the pond. I'm not too familiar with the players from C.America. Who are the superstars we should be courting next?
Sometimes I wonder if we should scout Olympic divers myself. I agree that Central America and the Caribbean are where we should scout, though.
i have often wondered what the central americans think of mls. i know the goal of mls is to create homegrown talent, but it would be nice to have central american feeder leagues one day. if anything, it would help to improve the level of play and increase the global marketability of mls in general.
I've alway thought it would be wise for MLS to look for young talent in BOTH Central and South America. Its good for the players in that salaries are reasonable (when given the strong U.S. dollar vs foreign currency) and good for MLS for bringing in good talent (making the league more exciting). p.s. Please try to use Chapinas instead of Guats (like Ticos for Costa Rica). Spics, Japs, Guk...all offensive words....
What you said about Euros is false. There are numerous examples of Euros playing exceptionally well for their teams. If anything, the overpriced latin Americans have killed us. Look at the Metrostars success with Colombians....

I agree with this, but one of these days it will come back to bite the Nats. I want what is best for MLS, but it will improve other national teams, not just the USA.

Maybe Quintanilla from El Salvador will have a breakout year next year. He will be 20, and will be at DC for the whole season, now they just need to get rid of some of their deadweight at forward.
Hard to imagine as he plays for DC. I think the team is cursed... sort of like the curse of the Bambino but with all the players unloaded years ago.
I don't think you can stereotype Euros or Latinos or Eurolatinos either way as to whether they're good for MLS. For every bad European import, there's been a good one. Ditto for South and Central America. It's up to the individual.
