Nope, I've been waiting for the league to run out of road and finally schedule Austin here. Won't happen the first flipped season, it'll be away no doubt. Just wonder if the league will have the balls to try and play away again in 28/29 lol. Wouldn't put it past them.
It would be on cue for them to hire Nancy I’d rather have a Nancy & Bez reunion where Bez puts him in his place
I don’t think ‘the league’ was the reason Austin hasn’t played here yet. Isn’t the story - which may be apocryphal, for all I know - that each club can, annually, request they not have to play a specific club from the other conference, and Precourt’s always chosen Columbus? By now, so much time has passed that whatever bad press the league may feared might have been associated with a match here is far less likely to be evident. The earliest Austin could play in Columbus is later in 2017, a full decade after the news broke about the possible relocation. I have to think that MLS has grown a thick enough skin that the modest pissiness associated with a match here in 2027 or 2028 won’t really register.
You'd think... Funny part is, there is no media in this country to rake them over the coals for trying to sabotage and then arrange the hostile relocation of an original MLS team to a city that didn't even want it. A team that would go on to win 2 MLS Cups in 5 years, and a city that welcomed a downtown stadium, and now another professional soccer team. Despite the fact that there is no media to bash them, I'm sure they're still terrified of it. It's not like the TV announcers will call them out or anything when the game finally happens. If anything, it would've probably drawn ratings back in the day, not so much now.
Terrified of it my ass. The league should embrace it. Want people to watch on TV? Give them a heated rivalry. MLS could use more games with a pulse. The problem being, while a shrinking subset of Crew fans will remember what happened, make banners, curse Precourt’s name, few other MLS fans will care all that much, even in Austin.
There were multiple MLS 360 personalities discussing it last season. MLS likes to make a big deal of rivalry matches and they were discussing the best ones. They mentioned how few truly good ones there were and then they brought up Austin and Columbus. Multiple announcers were talking about it for about 5 minutes and were even saying it was potentially suspect that Austin hadn’t made the trip to come to Columbus. FYI, my money is on Precourt not showing up, unfortunately. He’ll either send Mr Alright Alright or they’ll all skip it.
I don’t hold many grudges. I’ve driven around two Austin fans who I got to know online that came to Columbus for various reasons, and shown them around town. But phil west is a name I never enjoy coming across.
How often do opposing team owners travel to away matches? Hell, our current owners have mostly stopped attending home games. Can’t see any reason why Precourt or any of his stooges would feel any pressure to be here.
That's exactly what I meant. Being scared is silly, people love heroes vs villains, which is exactly what this would be. I bet it would've been the highest nationally rated game if they'd done it in Columbus the year after STC instead of Austin, and actually promoted it.
I don't give two shits if Precourt or any ownership or any FO is at the game. How many travel anyway for a normal game? We all know he'll never come, so no point even talking about that aspect. For all the bullshit MLS, Garber, and their stooge puppet Precourt put us through, Crew fans have deserved a home game v Austin for years now. It's complete chickenshit that they haven't given it to us yet.
Are you asking about if Precourt flies in to Texas to attend Austin matches from his first home in california or his "second home" in columbus?
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c152l12ge19o Nancy’s first comments since getting the sack at Celtic. He’s now friends with Russell Martin (didn’t see that one coming) and ,imo, it doesn’t appear his firing has affected his attitude that much.
The more I read the European sporting press, the more I'm convinced that I wouldn't be a sports fan if I lived over there - I'm not enough of an extremist.
Dunno. Press and fans for tOSU get about that riled up.... But we don't have tabloids here in Columbus.
I understand the disdain for OSU fans. Not always, but often ... the obnoxiousness level of an OSU fan is inverse to how little time they attended the school, if at all. Why the press covering OSU? I think of them as being almost scared to ask any tough questions, for fear of losing access.
