Honestly, good, I wasn't confident in hiring him at all. 🔴 BREAKING: St. Louis City is nearing a deal to name Yoann Damet their next head coach, per sources.Final details to sort still, but Damet is STL's guy.https://t.co/NTknNxWy7k— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 15, 2025
We've all seen how over the top the rumor machine is when it comes to anything related to Celtic. Still, it's not hard to imagine Nancy responding in that way. He acts as though he's convinced he's correct and everyone else is wrong. I mean, I respect the self-confidence. But at some point that type of stubbornness comes across as you being little more than well-spoken version of Caleb Porter. Nancy's career progression is starting to feel like is has the trajectory of a Greek tragedy.
And just because he apparently felt that Celtic fans were not sufficiently out of their minds with rage, Martin O' Neil says that " he would have happily stayed on" as interim manager. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...-boss-Wilfried-Nancy-stayed-interim-role.html
There's more here Celtic: Martin O'Neill 'would happily have stayed on' after interim spell - BBC Sport One thing I would note is this quote - perhaps an insight into why O'Neil would have even sat for an interview? I mean if I was given 10 to 15 mins to transition I would probably be miffed (pissed) bit of a hit job if you ask me "O'Neill, 73, said he had only had a "10 or 15-minute conversation" with the "affable" Nancy as the changeover took place earlier this month."
I normally try and bite my tongue when tempted to say something like "I told you so." In part because things change and I'd really rather nto look like an idiot in the longer-trerm. So maybe nancy pulsl out of this tailspin. But FFS, what the hell was he thinking stepping into this job mid-season? Any time, really. From every angle, it just looked like such a shitty fit. At this point I really don't care what his future coaching career looks like. He has a big-ass guaranteed contract and won't ever have to worry about where his next meal is coming from. If he falls flat on his face, he and his over-the-top sebnse of hubris are the only things to blame. No, I just hate that his implosion will just get used as another half-baked example of how inferior the US game is compared to where the game's true history is from. As if English and Scottish soccer fans weren't annoying enough as it was.
Exactly. The justification was that it was simply a job in Europe!! And Celtic is a HHUUGGGGEEEEEE club (in an inferior league to MLS, but we'll ignore that for now). Win a couple titles there and he can coach anywhere. Simple as that, easy peasy. Shocker, it wasn't that easy. Taking a shitty job with the idea it will lead to a completely unrelated better job after that, with minimal effort, is a bad reason to take a job. Celtic also demands wins immediately and doesn't care about developing players or systems, they just wanna win, period. That's why going somewhere like Rennes was a better fit. French team encourage developing youth to sell them on, it's a major revenue source for teams like that. After this decision, and a lot of the players Nancy brought it, I do think his judgement needs to be questioned. Great coach and developer of talent, but shouldn't be allowed to make transfers and needs a better advisor.
This is the mind boggling point for me. His system takes time and buy-in. You come into a floundering ship and then what? You lose a game, or two, or three and you've lost any chance of momentum for an organizational buy-in. We all have experience with failed managers who come in to immediately course correct by changing the system to fit their dream world. Only to have their dream crushed by the reality of turning a ship too quick and capsizing. He needs time and space. He might have gotten that in May. No way in hell he gets that in December. Hubris meet Nancy.

Great quote: abuse and threats from some sources have increased and are now intolerable. "They have dismayed and alarmed my family. At this stage in my life, I don’t need this. I cannot accept this and so I leave the Club I have loved all my life. Is Wilfried likely to hear even worse?
Shameless plug for which I get no kickback, so is it really a plug? I'm just paying it forward. Here's how to get the full version of Paramount+ at a really good price. You'll get live CBS, the Showtime content and no commercials when you watch archive/library shows. (There is an occasional brief promo for other Paramount+ shows at the start of some library content which can be skipped after a few seconds.) This won't work for Showtime or Paramount+ via a TV provider. There is no obligation to do anything at/with/via SportsLine other than sign up and cancel. 1) Sign up for Paramount+, but don't pay anything. 2) Using the same email address, sign up for SportsLine.com 3) Use promo code KICKOFF and get a year for $39.99. 4) Cancel your SportsLine subscription immediately via their website. You should get an offer for two months free. Take it. 5) Write down the cancelation date on your calendar of choice. 6) Two or three days before that date arrives, cancel your SportsLine subscription for real. You should get an email for two months free. Read it and do what it says. Boom. Sixteen months for $39.99. That email should also contain other codes for various prices. Basketball, Larry and Comeback all might still be valid for various prices. Codes "Forever" and "victory" are also good for quarterly renewals at various prices. At the time of renewal, there may be better codes than the email mentions. (Basketball and kickoff are the best prices at this time.) I was able to extend my previous subscription two or three times via the "Don't leave us!" email they kept sending when I tried to cancel. My Paramount+ subscription is basically $75 from spring 2024 until January 2027 thanks to SportsLine and their promo offers.
As I said, I’m most worried about his wife and kids. They didn’t sign up for this. To be clear, I love Scotland and have visited more times than I can remember. Glasgow has a deserved bad reputation in the UK though, especially regarding football violence.
Celtic up 1 - 0 in the 58’. Columbus Crew Nation might have a chance of survival if they can pull off the win. Edit : we’re ********ed 2nd edit: Nancy is ********ed
Can’t help falling in love with you is ringing out in the Dundee stadium after the game. Never a more poignant moment than that.
