I genuinely don't understand Brits' distaste for tactics boards. When Mick McCarthy was at Wolves, their similarly insane fans referred to Mick's loyal assistant, Terry Connor, as 'Clip Boardiola'. FFS let them get on with their jobs. 30k of them fans at Parkhead likely couldn't have held a pint on Sunday afternoon, much less a tactics board!
I think the one picture is a bit cringy, Nancy showing the captain his tactics board with the opposition manager looking on from behind.
It's fruity continental/EU nonsense that only Johnny Foreigner uses, obviously. Insular English know best, as per usual.
I think I see what is happening here. Haslams negotiating for a bigger deal makes the Nancy move to Celtic be held up until this really important stretch of matches Nancy implements his new style when his players aren’t quite ready. This results in losses but the team still looks like they are playing decent to not create any suspicion Nancy gets fired soon after for lack of results Crew sign free agent manager Nancy while being a few million richer.
You are amongst friends, but never refer to the Scottish, particularly Celtic supporters, as English. They will turn your ball sack into a sporran. Some can even get touchy if you call them British. Otherwise, your statement about MLS Johnny Foreigner is correct. The general perception of MLS is that it’s crap, therefore a coach coming from MLS will be crap. There is a local online Celtic forum on something called Kerrydale Street. They started a Wilfred Nancy thread just before he was hired. It is now 100 pages long, they are losing their minds over this appointment.
It’s worse with Celtic because they identify with Northern Ireland/Ireland. Calling them British pisses them off. Although the Good Friday Agreement (Northern Ireland peace treaty) was 25 ish years ago, there are still most certainly tensions. Religion plays a role as well (Catholic vs Protestant). This is why I made a big deal regarding quality of life for Nancy taking the Celtic job. Having Rangers (Protestant and pro UK/England) and Celtic (Catholic and pro Ireland/anti English) in the same city will be incredibly tough for him. Glasgow is directly across from Northern Ireland.
OK so as we start to wind this thread down, here's the last question we should all be asking about Mr. Nancy: Would you put him in the Circle of Honor?
That whole early 90s era of SNL was golden. It's just a shame Peacock doesn't have the musical performances up.
He's not at the top of the list, but...yes? And speaking of that, wasn't there supposed to be a re-do of the Circle of Honor or was that coming later? Or did I miss it and it's already in place?
Coaches arguably the best team in league history for 2 seasons (really 1.5 but whatever) won multiple cups and made even more finals. Hard to deny the man.
I'd say yes, but hes gotta wait 5 years like everybody else. Maybe by then we'll have had a coach who makes him look like Greg Andrulis
One MLS cup his first season and bombing out of the playoffs in the first round. On paper, Caleb Porter has as much of a shot getting in the Circle of Honor as Nancy.
