I've been a supporter of the Metrostars since 1996.
I've seen some guys that are real bad, but none as bad as Wolyniec.

I mean, this guy is truly horrible.
On Saturday he couldn't control a ball, couldn't make a good pass, lost the ball 100% of the time he had it.

Where did this guy come from?

I thought Bradley had taken his time making decisions that would best suit the team during "spring training".

I'm only 15, and I think I would probably make a better fit for the Metros than Wolyniec.

    How about a tryout Bob?

damn ,give the guy a break. he did have a good shot that went over the goal vs L.A . I think he came from the a- league, and listen for the money we have to spend on bench players be grateful for him. I think he also had a cup of coffee with the team in the past.

    Ok "In Bob We Trust",

in my opinion he's the worst, and you might not agree, but what I am saying is:

Can't we get anyone better for the Metros, and didn't Bradley "extensively research" (or something to that extent) many players to get ones that fit right and have talent?

i'm perfectly ok disagreeing with you, that's what makes these boards great...bradley has experience with 'i want a goalyniec' from chicago, and i don't think he was that awful, granted i hope to never see him start a game for us, BUT he did draw a foul or 2, and did use his body to hold the ball at times...of course i'd want a better player, but every team in this league arguably still has issues with depth at some position, and you could say we have one at forward...magee is an 18 year old rookie who needs some time before he should be starting, moreno is a starting forward, but some would argue mathis is not a forward...next in line is johnny w...i'm too excited about this season to start getting in to worse players of the past, but i will painfully and hopefully type this one last time...byron alvarez...the worst f'n player i've ever seen step foot on an mls field, including everyone's favorite, esmundo rodriguez

John Wolyniec is a Fordham University grad whom I believe led NCAA Division I in goal-scoring one year. He played under Bob Bradley with the Chicago Fire and also played for the Long Island Rough Riders in the A-League and I think he did play for the Milwaukee Rampage. I think that perhaps the fact that he was a local kid played into the decision to acquire him. But I get the feeling that BB was looking for someone with goal-scoring ability to come off the bench. I'm not sure that he will cut the mustard in the A-League.

Relax dude this guy is our 2nd back up off the bench. The only reason he's even coming in a sub is because theres not enough midfielders.

Fan since 96 and don't know where Wolyniec came from?

1st round draft pick by the Metros in 1999. Cut along with Jim Rooney after the 3rd game of the 99 season. Didn't see any action during that time. Bora then called him up from Long Island Rough Riders. 5 MINUTES INTO MLS DEBUT, HE SCORES A GOAL! HE IS A GOOD BACKUP PLAYER! Played 49 minutes total in 1999 with the Metros. Played with Milwaukee Rampage and stints with the Chicago Fire in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Stint with New England Revolution for one game in 2001 where he played one half. Played in 26 MLS games, started 6 before this season. 4 goals and 1 assist.
Resigned by the Metros in a supplemental draft earlier this month.

Esmundo Rodriguez: He played a few games for San Jose from 1997-2000 and 3 with Dallas in 2000. Wasn't too shabby as a sub.

Then there was Edmundo Rodriguez: 11 Games with the Metros as a forward: 1 assist, 0 goals. 16 Games with KC in 1997. Only 1 goal and 2 assists.

Edmundo Rodriguez was no Esmundo Rodriguez and I'm sure there was a significant difference in salary.

sorry for the typo, but more importantly, does anyone argue he was not one of the worst players to wear the red black white and yellow...and he also played defense

I don't think that shot was good. It was welll set up by Guevara and it was a clear chance, he was right in front of goal. I think he should have at least put it on target, but he just swiped it over. I didn't like the guy, but I don't think he's the worst metro ever like someone else said. I do wish we had some better than him. After Jaime and Cleatus, our forward line is extremely thin. :(

  13. I didnt think he was that bad. He was able to post up and hold the ball pretty good. Could possibly be used for Moreno and Mathis to make runs off of. I'd rather see him in there than Magee right now.

Byron Alvarez is trying out for the Portland Timbers right now. Granted he is trying out to backup McKinley Tennyson and Fadi Afash, but I have seen him in a few scrimmages and he has impressed. Was he really that bad for you guys?

Please do tell because the last thing we want is a guy who sucks and is going to hurt us...

Byron Alvarez was really good during preseason. I think the problem was that he was constantly trying to do everything by himself once he got into the game. He never started for the team and was always trying to get the start by trying to blow by defenders. Never worked in league play.

    The worst players:
Martin Klinger, Edmundo Rodriguez and Eduardo Hurtado (99 style)

Didn't Byron come from the Portland Timbers to the Metros?

The guy has come on as a late game sub and now people are killing him? Whatever. The kid is servicable as a fourth forward and did enough both times he played.

FKESoccer, don't you have an ODP team to try out for or something?

Byron Alvarez is from the Portland Area but never played for the Timbers....

As for the whole selfish thing, that is the one knock I have heard against him so far in the pre-season. Makes sense that you say it also...

But I just did a search here on B.S. for Byron Alavrez and could not find ONE SINGLE POSITIVE COMMENT about the guy. That scares me.

byron alvarez was fat, slow, did not have a single positive play on the field ever, and ugghhhhhhh was plain awful...maybe he just had an awful stint, and if he looks alright for another team now, he should be given a shot like anyone else but watching alvarez get ready to enter a game was so torturous, it's inexplicable...and yes, klinger was also awful...like i said earlier, it's alright to disagree and have an opinion, but it's really difficult to back up wolyniec getting cut as our 4th string forward after one average game, much less himbeing the worst metro ever

Wolyniec was a stud last year for the Milwaukee Rampage who won the A-league title. I saw him play a few times and was actually fairly impressed. Give him a few more games before you give up entirely on the guy.

Wolyniec played for Silver Lake on Staten Island, went to Fordham where he led NCAA Div. I in scoring and holds just about every Fordham record, played with the Brooklyn Knights of the PDL during the summer before his senior year and was very good there. Drafted by Metros, was cut, had a productive season with the Rough Riders, then moved to the midwest where he was excellent with Milwaukee last year and was kind of a callup-reserve with the Fire under Bradley. Didn't get much playing time with the Fire and may not get much here, but as a third or fourth forward he is a very useful player, probably doesn't cost much and is a local guy. DEFINITELY not among the worst all-time Metros, not that that's saying much.

one thing i will say is that some people are saying 'he's a local kid, and probably making a minimum salary'- with that thought in mind, don't forget his isn't some teenager, i beleive the guy is 25 years old.

with that being said, i can't imagine him becoming a starter in the team. i think this is what BB sees him as being- a 4th choice forward.

Hey guys, take it easy on Fkesoccer. In two years he'll be drafted by the Metros and will be coming off the bench for Mike Magee.

JerzeyRebel- How does Martin Klinger not make the cut for the 5 worst Metros ever?

Fkesoccer- Wolyniec won't be confused for Landon Donovan, but he's far from being a bum. The little he's played so far I think he's done "okay".
