1, 2, 3 and 5 have absolutely nada to do with great art, and 4 is largely a matter of personal opinion, substantiated only by the opinions of those who are considered "experts" by the masses. This is starting to read like one of your food threads.
he posted that list of criteria on March First. the expire date on responding to posts is 180 days. sorry. it's canon Law now.
The reason for his late, and not very charming reply is that in the meanwhile I dared criticise Brazilian football and Mexican 'cuisine' in World Rivalries. Funny how playground-like this board is eh?
Bah, Jackson Pollack has had more ink spilt in his name than any other. If that doesn't qualify him for BS' "Greatest Painter" then nothing does
Leonardo da Vinci, Leda and the Swan Lady cohorting and in fact having consumated a relationship with a swan. Proof of the consumation - is only suggestive as per the children hatching from eggs. The golden proportion exists in this painting, which is intended to guide the eye throughout the content. As one views it they are taken through a fairytale story, of sorts and brought back to reality by the figure of the woman. The swan represents only the flighty falice of a man, and the children hatching from eggs reinforces this to the extent that those, are in fact his offspring and that at any given movement he will take to flight.
Picasso is easily the best modern master. He is also among the all-time greats. That's not to take away anything from other artists who were truly great, but Picasso was in a class by himself. He changed perceptions and definitions as to what art is, its methods and its role in society. He was a genius and his works still have repercutions today that no other artist has ever had. He was a monster.
I agree that he changed what some people claim is art, but certainly not for the better. The 20th century and now the 21st century is the Dark Ages of art. An intentional communistic neo-barbarism set out to destroy and spit in the face of Western Civilisation. Destruction and sadism does not equate to genius, anybody can kick down a sandcastle. While Dali was quite subversive he at least, unlike Picasso had a respect for academics. Art is meant to enrich civilisation, not destroy it. Suppose he wasn't as repulsive as that pervert Marcel Duchamp though. Now there is a dirty monster.
Always been a fan of Salvador Dali. I like art for what it says, or simply for it's crafty idea. I couldn't care less about techniques and such.
Architect: Andrea Palladio Sculptor: Gian Lorenzo Bernini Painter: Sandro Botticelli is my personal favourite, but William-Adolphe Bouguereau is criminally underrated.
