I'd say both now that I know Graz is gone although I would have loved to keep Graz instead of Goose....one reason: Eddie Robinson

Sorry, dude, Goose is a leader in a leadership role.

His role last season was soccer cone on Ruiz' practice field. No offense to Goose but Robinson is ready and Dayak and Ekelund are leaders. Goose is too expensive. He is one of the biggest reasons for the turn around in SJ but this is a business. :(

move Goose to the bench, let him "lead" as a coach.....

Goose showed how easily he can be beat with simple speed....not a quality you want in a central defender....

leading by example with this trait is not a very good leader in my book....

Thats why I would be a good GM and none of you would. As much as i love Goose and what he's done for the Quakes....I wouldn't let it get personal. Ask yourself 3 questions.....Is he taking up alot of cap space? Is he worth the cap space he's taking up? Do you have a competent player to take his place?.....YES.....NO....YES. Bye Bye Goose! Dayak and Robinson could possibly be the best bargain duo at central defense in MLS. Most bang for your buck. The down side....if either gets hurt, we are screwed.

I heard Dayak was going to have his name changed to "Captain Fragile". I think he's a great player and puts more heart on the field than any Quake except maybe Mulrooney, but the guy has missed years due to injury, including the latter part of last season. I don't think he's going to last much longer. I think we are going to be seeing a lot more of Agoos and Robinson in central defense next year than Robinson and Dayak.

And the down side is pretty huge, IMO, and not worth the risk of making Agoos a casualty.

I don't like the Graziani move, either-- but as LDB says, this is a business, and it had to be done. But with the SuperDraft forthcoming, I'm sure Johnny Moore and Frank Yallop are only looking for reinforcements up front, and they would come at a cheaper cost than keeping Graziani.

From my end of the world here, it sounds like LD and Graziani had a very decent partnership-- it's a shame that's become the latest MLS salary cap-related casualty, however. But let's see what Dwayne DeRosario can do up top with Landon, when given the chance to play 90 minutes... I think it's about time he's given the chance to graduate from the role of the designated "supersub".

Just my 2c worth from overseas... :)

    Cheers,
    William

First off....Dayak's neck was pretty severe to say he is fragile. He was fine in 2001 and most of 2002. He tried to play through it but just couldn't. Agoos was hobbled most of last season also and he also tried to play through it. I'd say in the "fragile" dept, they were the same in 2002. What's left you ask? SALARY, and i'm sure Agoos doubles Dayak's salary.

It wasn't Cowboy's neck last season. He was fine in 2001, taking us to the Cup, cuz he didn't get hurt.

Last season, he thought he had strained his groin in LA. But what it really turned out to be was a sports hernia. He tried to get though it and tried to get well enough to play (thinking it was a groin pull or strain). But that just didn't happen. Sports hernias often don't show up on x-rays and what not, from what I've been told (and Cowboy always said his test/xrays were inconclusive). So the only way to fix it and know for sure is through surgery. (I've been told all this but I'm not sure if it's 100% right). Cowboy had surgery in the off season. So I hope he's okay to play for at least one more year.

The only thing everyone is right is the fact that he's aging. He won't be around forever. And the older a body gets, the slower it heals. After all Cowboy's done for the San Jose team and soccer in the Bay Area, I think he deserves a little more credit and respect.

You misunderstood me my dear....I referred to the neck before i referred to the 2001 season....i listed his injuries chronologically. How many times have I told you not to correct me in front of the boys? If it happens again.....we're through! :D

I knew what you meant. Didn't mean to correct you, although that's what I did. Sorry. I meant to point that out cuz so many people seem to think the only thing that's been wrong with him is his neck injury. Can't let their be confusion over Cowboy. :D

Re: Re: Who should the Quakes have dumped in the name of cap space.

I absolutely respect Dayak. He has been one of my favorites, dating back to his original days with the Clash back in 1996. The "Captain Fragile" comment was to draw attention ldb's statement that if we get rid of Agoos, we're hosed if Dayak gets hurt.

I honestly believe that Agoos will contribute more than Dayak next year. Agoos had a bad year last year, no doubt about it, but I believe he has the ability to come back and show everyone who is sticking forks in him that he has another year left.

If there is another central defender we could have with 80% of Agoos' ability at 50% of the price, I would love to have him on the Quakes and support tossing Agoos over the side. Dayak doesn't count because he's going to be rehabilitating until he retires. Who else is out there?

Hey get rid of Donovan... your killing his international career.

And if he doesn't leave soon to europe, he'll think that marrying your sister is ok, just like me and my sister.

I wouldn't dump any of the Quake because I just love them all ever so much. But if someone had to go... oh, I don't know... I guess I will just pick someone at random... Ekelund.

If we end up with Goose and Troy this year, and Lagos... the team will look radically different NEXT year.

I sure hope FY and Dom come back from England with a very good discovery player or two...

New England seems to be the team with an extra guy....Serna,APC or even Rooney could be trade bait. Hmmmm.....Agoos for Serna.....seems wrong, and Rooney, after all the crap he talked about Donovan, nah.....Alex Pineda Chacon for Agoos....that's my prediction, right here, right now.
