I vote Abe in the absence of a new signing.

I just look for the best player on that list: AA and if he doesn't work then birdman.

    Gustavo Figueroa.

Heh, I've paid too much attention to Football Manager (WSM) ratings.

If I have the right guy, He wanted to some to Dallas a couple years ago. US wife I think. Isn't he the one who played for FCD at SMU even?

but he was out of the FCD price range at the time.

An Ecuadorian with a green card, I think. Other than that, I don't know - I'd guess you know alot more than me. But, again, transfer fees are probably in the way, so it's all a wash, anyway.

I checked my notes, that's him. He even came here on "trial" which is when he played against SMU. He's actaully got a US passport, not just a green card, due to US wife. (at least that's what in my notes)

FCD field a discovery on him back in early 2005 under Clarke. When they went back to his club to arrange the purchse the price had gone up and FCD suddenly couldn't afford him, that was pre DP player rules.

Key word here is "run." Abe doesn't qualify for this pole.

Abe is the Peter Crouch of FCD. people can't imagine how he could physically score, but he usually does, and even then they don't want him to start.

well, okay, most Liverpool fans finally came around, but the management hasn't. :)

I don't know about that. Crouch has some flair to his game. Abe is more a meat and potatoes guy. And, I have to say that if this team intends to start Abe, then FCD is in trouble. Like most, I believe he's a decent option off the bench but not starter quality.

meat and potatoes is fine with me as long as he scores, which he often does.

Forget Abe. You must have at least one speed threat that can stretch a defense. If you lack that, then teams will simply press up on you at will. If you are not going to put the ball "in the vital area" for the forwards, then you are screwdrivered.

No speed threat + no creativity from central midfield = bad expansion team type of season

I think we will have to be content with watching Oduro dribble balls out of bounds. Ricardinho is too much a soccer player to just make silly decoy runs. As a Brazilian, he wants the rock, he needs the rock. If the rock won't come to him, he will go to the rock. And then everyone wonders, "why the hell is Ricardinho playing in the midfield ?"

Arturo Alvarez would be interesting as a sub for Cooper IF Ruiz was still around AND we had a creative midfielder. But we don't.

So expect two guys running around up top becoming the fittest men in Frisco w/o ever touching a soccer ball.

you're right theo. the forwards *have* to be speedy. if there's one thing we've learned from 100+ years of modern football history being played across the world, it's that there's only one way to play football.

There are better ways to play, but remember the functional qualities demanded by the tactics employed.

I don't set the limits. The coach does. Go argue with him.

a lot of what sounds like tactics is actually jargon and technobabble. good players will get results, even if it doesn't always look likely to some tactical minds. that's all I've got on this.

I'm guessing DC (for one) has better players than FCD right now.
    Code:

                    Cooper
    Alvarez Oduro
                     Toja
           Serioux Ricchetti
    Wagner Davino Moor Rocha
                     Burse

I just don't have alot of confidence in that lineup. Maybe a few years ago, but not now, with the increases in experienced foreign players. It may be an improvement defensively, but there is nobody to feed the ball upfront. I'm with the naysayers in thinking that Cooper will struggle in this scheme.
