It seems that in recent years naming a player the captain of Arsenal guarantees we will be selling him within two years. I don't know if RVP is staying for the forseeable future, but if he isn't, who would you like to see gone for big bucks (plenty pounds?) next year?

I nominate Diaby. RVP had an injury free year. Maybe Abou can have the same luck, and we can recuperate some of our medical expenses.

    Or maybe Squillaci?

If we're going by that logic, I'd certainly rather give it to Wilshere.

Shouldn't it be someone we want to leave? Give it to Bendtner.

Hard to say. Vermaelen if he can stay fit. Wilshere as VC if he can stay fit. Aside from that, you'd have to look at Koscielny, Arteta, or Sagna as influential members of the squad. Szczesny looks like a future captain, but I think he is a bit too row and Lehmann-esque (slightly batshit crazy) to be captain just yet.

The mids will rotate once jack's back.

Schez is young (and also a bit Jens at times)
Jack is too young and needs to just stay fit

But how about we just end the permanent captain. Leaders are leaders because others look to them, not because of rank on their shoulders or an arm band so the true "captain" is decided by the guys. Appoint captains from week to week (and likely the true choice will be the guy more weeks than not) but end that particular captain until someone makes the decision for you (e.g. Jack signs a 10 year deal while holding his sons Arsene and Wenger at his new apartment in Highbury and showing off his full body tatoo off that famous image of the Northbank stands).

Arteta is the logical choice. He has the experience, the authority on top of the talent to be AFC'S Captain.

I'd be okay with either Vermaelen or Arteta.

Rosicky would be nice too, if he's a starter that is.

i think, with him being the current VC, picking anybody other than vermaelen (whatever you think of him) would cause hard feelings (at least with/for him). even ignoring that bit, i LIKE his personality for a captain.

if he can be reinked (like, y'know, THIS year instead of waiting until the last minute again), i would love to see song as a VC with a view toward him becoming captain later. the look on him when he was given the armband for that game last year was absolutely touching. and it did an amazing job of elevating his game for a fairly extended period afterward.

i get the arteta love but i don't know if i think he'd make a great captain. and i definitely would not take him over song, given how long song has been here, what he's done to improve and what he's given to the club.

I'm going to go with Song. Unless we sign another midfielder, he is the only currently fit player who is pretty much guaranteed a spot when fit. TV is not a fixture in our defense, if he continues to play like he did last season.
