Well Landon Dononvan won it on the mens side.

Who are the worthy candidates on the womens side.

I will be a Mia homer and say Mia :D. Will a Mia fan like M9 or Alana chime in with her USWNT & WUSA stats for 2002 please. I'm too lazy to compile them.

I guess some others for the list would be the Portland duo of Millie and Mac right? Someone put their stats too please.

Any other worthy candidates? Aly Wagner?

I would put Mia:eek: (yes I said Mia over Millie) and Lilly at the top of the list. Mac started the year wicked strong but then drifted off. Millie's been consistent. I really think Mia will get it, she's back and kickin some wicked ass. Lil has been playing great for both Boston and the Nats this year...but my $$$ is on Mia.

    not mia

Shannon Mac - don't forget the start of the year - all those goals. My vote would be her or Wambach

If there isn't a "come back" player award, then I'd have to say Mia for player of the year of course!

On a separate note, anyone know why she doesn't take her penalty kicks? Why does BC always get them?

    Mia for sure!
Um we take the league season into account right?
Given that Mia had the most balanced year. Goals for club and country in the small amout of time (comparitively speaking) that she played. Mac is a good candidate given that she went on a scoring tear early on when nobody else was doing jack.

The Hammer gets my vote. :D

I'm too damn lazy to look up stats now. Maybe tomorrow.

    I'm speechless! :p

So here is another question: When Mia gets the award this year, will we get general agreement or will the haters come out of the woodwork and cry about it?

And there is some confusion as to what this Honda award is. Is this the official USSF POTY award or is this some award that Honda gives out in various sports while the Chevy POTY is given out later.

Actually I'll start up a seperate thread for the Mia haters.

    Mia's 2002 WUSA stats:

    8 goals
    6 assists
    1 goal in the postseason

    Mac's 2002 WUSA stats:

    5 goals
    8 assists

    Millie's 2002 WUSA stats:

    10 goals
    8 assists

Yeah I know stats don't tell the entire story.

Stats might tell a better story if minutes played are included... ;)

    Mia:
    506 minutes played
    8 goals
    6 assists
    26 shots
    18 on goal
goal average: one goal every 63.25 minutes

    Millie:
    1605 minutes played
    10 goals
    8 assists
    62 shots
    33 on goal
goal average: one goal every 160.5 minutes

    Mac:
    1424 minutes played
    5 goals
    8 assists
    56 shots
    27 on goal
goal average: one goal every 284.8 minutes

    Abby:
    1689 minutes played
    10 goals
    9 assists
    54 shots
    34 on goal
goal average: one goal every 168.9 minutes

    Lilly:
    1699 minutes played
    8 goals
    13 assists
    62 shots
    33 on goal
goal average: one goal every 212.3 minutes

based on those: Mia all the way. Abby runner up.

I didn't do the minutes, because I just didn't feel like calculating all the minutes all five forwards played all year. I'm lazy. So sue me.

    USWNT stats:

If I calculated correctly (if i didn't tell me), there have been 11 WNT matches this year.

    Mia:
6 goals and 4 assists in 5 matches

    Abby:
4 goals and 2 assists in 6 matches

    Mac:
12 goals (10 of which came in the first three months of the year) and 2 assists in 11 matches

    Parlow:
4 goals and 1 assist in (I would assume she's played all the matches) 11 matches

Millie: 1 goal and 5 assists in 7 matches

    *mia hater mentality on*

Just out of curiosity, if it were Mia who scored 12 goals in the beginning of the year and faded out and you gave Mac Mia's stats on the year who would you give POTY?

To me in my Mia Hater thinking ways, either way it'd be Mia right?

    That's the way it is.

    *mia hater mentality off*

Yes, but dear, you see...it wasn't Mia that had 10 goals in the beginning of the year and faded out, now was it? :D

I love Mackie. She's in a slump. Can't do much about it until she gets her way out of it, you know? Not scoring many goals in the last several matches doesn't take away the fact that she did score so many in the beginning of the year. It still equates to 12 no matter what you do.

I still give Mia the POTY, though. Probably because I'm a mindless Mia fan... *shrug*

    LOL

That's just how I think. Whether her impact of games came at the beginning of the season or the end, she still had an impact. I'd hate to have that recognition taken away because now she's in a damn slump.

But I guess *gulp* deep down I think Mia actually deserves it... IF they include the impact she made with the Freedom. If they're just talking about the WNT then I think Mac deserves it.

    IMO.

Sounds like a good opinion to me. I think Mia should get it because she's only been in 5 matches, yet she's still done all that damage. I think she's averaging a goal every...51 minutes for the NT this year.

Once again, babble by a mindless Mia fan. :D

Yes it's babble, but it does make sense. :D

I'm not going to do the checking, but who scored goals against the tougher teams so far this year? Especially in the games that weren't 'friendlies?'

Define teams that are "tougher" and not "friendlies" and I'll get it for you.

Teams unlike Italy, Scotland, and upcoming Panama. :D

What was the schedule this year?

I agree. Mia overcame her injury and came back with a bang and kind of rejuvenated both the Freedom and the USWNT. I don't think it would be rite to give it to anyone else, but I wouldn't complain if Wagner or Wambach were honored either.

    and, yes.....#6 RULES

Yeah I think its important to not overlook or dismiss what Mac has done this year. Like I said before Mac was getting it done when 4 other healthy forwards weren't doing jack squat.

But the question still remains do you include the WUSA season in the whole thing?

If you say no then you give it to Mac because of what she did against Norway and China in the begining of the year.

If you say yes then it goes to Mia. She had the biggest impact for her club and in the relatively short time she's been back with the NT she's been unstopable and has figuered into about 80% of the goals. (that's just a guess)

When it comes to production in the time played Mia has it over everybody.

In any case if anyone other than Mia or Mac get this thing it will be bullsh!t.

    Teams played this year:

Mexico, Sweden, England, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Norway again, Scotland, Russia, Australia and Italy.

Pick which teams you'd like the scores and stats from and I'll get them.

Were you watching the second half she had Sunday? Who else is gonna dominate the midfield like that...

It's not all about the goals. Okay, well, maybe it is to the USSF...

macmillian...mia wasnt even a 90 min player this year until the end of the year...i would however say that if there was a comeback player or 12th player mia should win that by unamanous consent.

From Fear's earlier question, here's a description of it. The Honda award is a voting of the media, while the Chevy award is a voting of the media, us national team coaches and reps, and the fans (last year was the first year for fans).
