Souness I don't think it cut out for international management. Would be found out tactically.

Like I said, the new man has to be someone who has INTERNATIONAL experience.

Does anyone else think the coach isnt the Republic's problem? I dont care who they bring in, changes have to take place at the FAI.

How about the next time we "respond and not react" to results. We lost two very good managers in Mick and Brian over the past couple of years all because of a tabloid mentality.

I say bring them both back together as a team and give them time and space to develop a real Irish national team.

Without a doubt and Roy Keane said as much a week or so back, that said ROI still needs a manager....

Houllier would be no bad choice, I think.

I have subsequently heard a rumour (second hand from someone who claims to know someone in the FAI) that it's gonna be Terry Venables.

Via similar nebulous sources, I heard that they are not close at the moment (announcement in January) and are really crossing people off the list (Brady) rather than actively seeking someone.

But both Venables and Houllier are on the list, by some accounts; however Venables supposedly has serious opposition internally.

I don't think his dodgy ticker would be a factor considering they appointed Bobby Robson!!

Giles seems to be the kingmaker according to the press.

Without doubt, Roy Hodgson is the best candidate. Just offer him the job!

Oh for the love of God...

    KENDALL ANGLES FOR REPUBLIC JOB

Former Everton manager Howard Kendall has put himself forward for the vacant Republic of Ireland job.
The 61-year-old, whose second spell in charge at Everton ended in 1998, believes his experience in the game is enough to make him a contender.
Kendall confirmed he had made enquiries about becoming Steve Staunton's successor and then revealed he would like former player Peter Beardsley to be his number two.
"I've had long enough out of it now and I feel it would be perfect for me and hopefully for them. I've made some enquiries," he told Sky Sports News.
Kendall rejected any suggestion his time away from management would count against him.
"Look at the CV and go through the history of what I've done," he added.
Kendall played for Preston, Everton, Birmingham and Stoke before moving into management with Blackburn.
Kendall also managed in Spain and Greece and took charge of Manchester City and Sheffield United, but it was during his first spell as manager of Everton that he made his mark.
During his six-year spell at Goodison Park in the 1980s the club won the league twice, the FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup.
But despite being out of management for almost a decade he does not feel he is out of touch.
Kendall added: "I am in touch with the modern game, I write a column in the local newspaper and I go and watch Premier League football every week.
"I know who I would put in place. If he was interested, the likes of Peter Beardsley, I think he would be superb.
"I have spoken to Peter and he said he would love to work with me again."

Is there anything to the Coppell leaving Reading rumours?

'cause he would be an outstanding appointment IMO

More interesting to me that Houllier is in the running for South Korea... I was under the impression he was "unavailable" due to his new job with the FFF
