    Howard?

Has anyone in the history of football ever captained a team with ONE cap?

No idea but it makes sense to include him on the list since he regularly captained his club team. That said (and taking into account that I don't actually know any of these guys, so my opinion is nearly as worthless as some of the others here :) ), I would give the armband to Benny Olsen. He always comes to play and he doesn't back down when faced with brutal defenders.

Yeah, its much better to give it to a spoiled diving whiner, than a gritty fighter, who nevers backs down from a challenge. That would be a brilliant move.

Landon...simply because in the US/Poland match (WC 2002) he was the one who was clapping and yelling for his team to pick it up and keep playing.
    He rarely gives up.

i would like to see mathis be capt, there is still hope for him..and there is a reason why he was given all the hype pre-WC. giving him capt, arena would show he still has confidence and him and his abilities. maybe that is something clintho needs at this point.

I think it will be whoever shows up at camp as the leader. I don't think any of the players, based on their past experience or contribution to the national team deserve it. It will be decided at camp. My guess: LD.

    Mathis.

Who knows, maybe giving him the captaincy will settle hime down a bit much like England did with Beckham.

    Huh

I think it is a good idea to give it to Mathis. Maybe it is a gamble but it could be a wake up call and a big vote of confidence for our best goal scorer. If not him then Donavon.
The captain has to be someone on the field. Should Howard be on this list? (Will he be on the field?)

I agree. He's was at WC, and doesn't have any baggage.

i'd prefer someone like pablo... but just don't think he will get it

mathis would then get my vote, i simply don't see bruce hacing landon be the captain at 20 years of age... and i would concur

nobody really stands out or deserves it but if I were BA i'd go with LD, as scary as it my seem. He's got the most experience and if he's gonna be the #10 he's got to show leadership.

I didn't say to give it donovan ..... why would you assume that?

my opinion ... olsen is a punk and isn't captain material.

Pablo's my man. The Mexico game was a perfect example. He was baited and kept his cool. Would Olsen have done that?

I'm in total agreement that it should go to Pablo, but yes I do believe Olsen would have done the same. Remember when Lothar put him in a headlock? He keep his cool just fine. I forget the last time Olsen lost his cool on the field, please remind me.

ps. I assumed as a quake fan you would be pushing for LD, my mistake.

I'd prefer someone who at least knows how to write in English. I mean it's not that hard to hit shift caps and throw in a comma, here and there.

Obviously, I need to catch up on things (been busy since MLS Cup, haven't been following soccer much the last ten days or so), because I want to see a more complete list.
Nothing against any of the above players, and maybe it's time to start loading some responsibility on the next generation, but don't we have other choices? I mean, as far as experience goes, not ability or even leadership skills--there isn't a single player listed who I wouldn't want to see on the field.
