    That is what alot of us have been screaming for all year. Still we add two player neither of who really fill that role. It is almost like that was never an issue or a concern of Bob's.

    You forget the "When Preki retires Allocation" we finally get so it may cost us nothing; that is if we have a team next year.

    Didn't Meola require surgery and was unavailable for much of the first half of the season?

    10 goals and 10 assists is little prduction?

    That equals 1.36 points per game

    Donovan = 1.54 ppg
    Guevara = 1.27 ppg
    J. Moreno = 1.34 ppg
    DeRosario = 1.11 ppg

    I have a tough time seeing where Wolff is having little production.

    Seriously! what more do you people want out of Josh Wolff?

    The guy was tied for fifth in the league in goals, and fourth in assists!

    We want the guy that scores in the 90th minute when the chips are down. We want the "clutch" goals.

    Josh Wolff's MLS Playoff/Cup career:
    1 goal - and that was a PK

    He's paid to be the star, the best player, the one that toughs it out and makes everyone else on the field better.

    Here, here!

    Don't misunderstand me, I like Wolff and think he's a good player. I justified my statement by saying, "for the money". If we could get 2-3 other players that made a lot, but not the MAX, it might be good for the team.

    Exactly.

    Without looking up the numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if Wolff has been more "productive" than Johnston was.

    Which would you rather have: Mo Johnston or Josh Wolff?

    Sometimes, it's the intangibles that matter. You knew when Mo walked off the field (or was stretchered off) that there was nothing left to give. I can't say that about Josh Wolff.

    And I can guarantee that Mo never got Wolff-money. Heck, Preki never go t Wolff-money.

    I got what you are saying, but I was never really pleased with Bo's play. I think if we woulda kept Meola he wouldn't have been as rusty and woulda played like he has the last month all year. Who knows though.

    We might not been better off, but the way I feel about Bo I don't see how we wouldn't have been.

    I don't know if we really want to give up our top scorer. But if we did it might make some new heroes out of Hue/Sumalia/Arnaud/Sealy....

    I think overall though, this team needs to work on it's midfield before it decides to cut any forward. A midfield correction and better balls forward could make all kinda of production out the forwards we already have.

    I don't think we would have seen the Meola of the last month all season after the rust had worn off. He came back from that injury wanting to prove something to the KC front office and to Bob for letting him go. That chip on his shoulder made him play better and play out of his mind against Chivas on the last day of the season to keep his former team out. Would he have had the same chip on his shoulder if he had stayed in KC? Doubtful, cause that would have meant he would have likely gotten the contract he wanted.

    Was I happy with Bo's overall play this season? No. Do I think Tony would have done a lot better? Not a lot better. Do I think we need a new keeper next season? Yes.

    We need a midfielder who can shove the ball down defender's throats and score goals. Preki filled that role until he got injured and now we really miss that production.

    Agreed, but who do we get to fill that role? There are not an over abundunce of AM's in MLS, and most teams would be reluctent to part with one. And the Wizards still don't have a good record of using their SI slots or allocations for good signings.

    You might want to have a looksee at the Metros threads on the topic of Meola. Except for last night's match, they haven't had much positive to say about Fat Tony.

    We didn't "not qualify" for post season play because of Bo. Classic breakdowns in defense and the inability to put the ball in the net is what did us in.

    To me.. this is the key. We need somebody who can serve up an accurate pass onto the foot/head of a charging forward. We don't have that man. With such a general, Josh Wolff would be way deadly... especially with Arnaud and the new blood onboard.

    I'll give you Klein and a Gansler for a Valderama any day.

    I would have to agree with this. Having been in Dallas, Bo had absolutely no chance on either of the goals because the defense allowed men to go unmarked. When you leave forwards open for 10-15 seconds, don't be surprised if it bites you in the butt.

    I must admit to not being well informed on the Wizards (but to support & follow them when I can), but it is my understanding that neither Hesmer nor Hutton have had the opportunity to prove themselves in a full match (only reserves). Both were excelent college keepers and I believe both spent time on Youth National or at least Regional teams. Why do you assume that neither of them are the "right" starter. Both will likely in time be starters from looking at their backgrounds, is it the youth factor you are concerned about? If so, look around at some of the other young keepers who had opportunity drop them in the starter role - many have done very well......

    I've seen Hutton play in college. He looked solid, but not spectacular. I've seen Hesmer play several times with the Wizards, and Bo is definitely the better keeper. I remember seeing him play in the reserves game in Tulsa before the season, and I was hoping that he could claim the starting spot. After his performance in that game, I was praying Bo could stay healthy. Hesmer's performances in the US Open Cup didn't change my mind.

    Hesmer is not the answer at goal.

    Even if you discount the three goals - which I consider somewhat soft but others may disagree - against him in the USOC loss to the Minnesota Thunder, his play in the reserves match Sunday morning sealed it for me.

    He didn't move for either of Dallas's goals. On the second, it could be argued that he was screened and never saw the shot, but I'm not so sure about that. On the first however, he saw the forward line up and shoot, and watched the ball curl into the net at the far post without even making an attempt on it. That's not the kind of keeper that lasts long at the top levels.

    To put it in other terms, I could have made a better effort at the first Dallas goal than Hesmer did, and I'm certainly not MLS caliber.

    I know it's a pure hypothetical, but I'm grasping at straws to try to elevate my soccer spirit...

    DC board's thread for trading Freddy Adu

    I happened to see the title of the thread and had a look. There's one post a couple from the top that had a couple familiar names mentioned...

    Klein for Adu?

    Well, that would be a good trade, but I can't stop hating Adu.

    Okay, I know Klein didn't exactly have the best end to the season.. but get rid of him?! Chris Klein is one of the last people on this team I would ever get rid of. He's a KC guy now. And an absolutely incredible person. Seriously, he's one of the best people in professional sports today. Good professional soccer players are a dime a dozen, but good people like that aren't. You can't let a guy that is both like that go.

    Well, I'm not sure that I can totally agree with it from an on-field standpoint, but from an off-field standpoint it's absolutely the worst thing that can happen in the current set up - both for the Wizards and Adu.

    Adu needs a savvy coach and front office to take care of his off-field needs, which is not something that the Wizards can offer right now. His growth would be stunted as a player.

    From an on-field standpoint, Adu has a lot of creativity, but not a lot of consistency. He's more of a central midfield attacking player, as opposed to Klein's strength of wing play. As poorly as Kleiny played later in the year, he's still a better player than Adu.
