Simple question: considering everything, which of the US adversaries in CONCACAF do you like least.

kind of a trick question .... because my favorite rival is mexico (but they're my most hated team).
hate the team, but I love to play them.

i voted other because i'm sure my least favorite rival is probably one of those 'countries' we'll be playing in the new concacaf setup. something like the netherland antilles or something. always hated them.

    Tough Call

I probably loathe Mexico the most, but as the other poster mentioned, the rivalry makes it fun (and the fact that I teach many Mexican American Students makes it even more interesting) and so that lessens the hate. I don't think I'd ever been as angry as I was while watching Summer Away matches in 2000 in Guatemala, and I believe Costa Rica, nothing ever filled me with as much anger as those games did. So perhaps they are catching up with Mexico (although truth be told, half the anger was directed at the refs).

  5. I'd also have to say Mexico for now, but if we ever had trouble with one of those new tiny countries we have to play in qualifying, then we may start hating that team. I hope we don't have trouble with those small teams, but you never know.

Haul out a tape of the '96 qually at RFK, you'll see why...

You are morally obliged to hate Mexico, but truer words were never spoke. Guatemala is the dirtiest team in the Hemisphere. Largest country in Central America, and they have never qualified, so they just get angrier and angrier with each failure. They should have to start each match with 10 men since a red is inevitable, though with CONCACAF refs, rarely called. I was at that match, and some Guat laid a two footed tackle that almost severed a leg, and it wasn't even a yellow, IIRC.

    Bingo.

I was at that match and it's still the dirtiest match I've ever seen. All the stuff since then is just icing on a bitter cake.

I'd love to know what the three votes for "Other" are.

Costa Rica. Yeah, Mexico is our biggest rival, but we have had a lot of success over them in the last five years. Whenever we play them outside of Mexico City, I always feel confident we will win. Now those damn Ticos always give me a chest pain. Even when we do beat them, it is a very, very tough contest. I don't relax until the final whistle has blown. Happy as hell when we get one point out of a visit to San Jose in the qualifiers. Can't recall a recent game (last six years) where we played very well and controlled the game against them.

I couldn't decide who I hated more: the Guats at RFK or the refs who let them butcher our players. Not a big fan of the TnT hacks either.

Mexico is the worst CONCACAF rival. The only other close option is Costa Rica.

Those two at the top of the list because they are actually rivals, and games against them are competative. Jamaica is one of the next-best squads, and I don't think we've ever lost to them.

Mexico is hands-down the worst because they embody all of the negative characteristics of the any other CONCACAF team, and up until a few years ago, they usually beat us.

    I hate Mexico

I hate Mexico, I hate Mexico, I hate Mexico, I hate Blanco, I hate Blanco, I hate Blanco. The whole Mexican team disgust me. If I was at the WC2002 game, I would run out on the field and punch a hole through Blanco's flat face. Then at the end of the game I would run up to their redcarded captain and point a finger in his face and laugh. Then I'll Kick Blanco in the nuts. Then I'll pull a Burrito out of my sock and throw it at the Mexican crowd. Then I'll stick my boot up Blanco's ass. Then I'll lay a big Fart in the middle of the field so to make the Mexican team draw a crowd around it. Then I'll run away.

I agree concerning that this a trick question. Although I don't like the TriColores, they are the best rival.

I used to loathe the Ticos and the bags of urine the fans threw during those matches, but they were stupid enough to hire Steve Sampson.

That's leaves dirty Guatemala ('96 and after). Too bad they have a couple of good players, then they would be the leaders by a landslide.

Ah, dealing with El Tri is easy now...all we have to do is put in Cobi and watch this happen...

While the entire Mexican team is trying to do Cobi bodily harm, Donovan and Mathis each get a hat-trick...

I realize this was subject to much speculation last June, but have we ever figured out why the Mexican team wanted to eat Cobi's liver?

Anyway, most hated has to be the Virgin Islands. I've never been there, but they can't all be virgins. Lying bastards.

I've always loved visiting Mexico on vacation and have had lots of good Mexican-American and Mexican friends.

But I love hating the Mexican National Soccer Team.

Wow, are those Mexicans hated. In Southamerica we don't hate their national team because we really don't care about them.

But we sure hate their clubs, because they bought their way into the Copa Libertadores, but their national squad still plays the Concacaf qualifiers, the best of both worlds. Not fair.

On the other hand, I probably shouldn't worry that much, because the Conmebol establishment will never allow the Mexicans to win the Libertadores. ;)

Costa Rica. Definitely. I've been there. It's a gorgeous country, the people are wonderful...

And they hired Steve "Word of the Day" Sampson.

    No mercy on the Ticos

I agree with Ringo...I like to see the beat Mexico. Maybe it's because of their proximty to us, but I think it's more because of the way they view American soccer.

Good question. Mexico seems like the obvious and most popular answer, but I'm really down on Jamaica lately. The last few games we've played them, I thought they were particulary dirty. I hate seeing guys get injured by stupid dirty play in friendlies. Jamaica looks like one of those team really upset that we are better than they are now.
