Garrincha ... is the man.... dribbles made per 90 minutes ... Regional Cariocão between 1957 until 1964 .... it would be between ... 15 , 00 per game ... or even 20, 00 per game ! dribbles made per 90 minutes ! is the man ... too much ahead of others !
......... For me ... Ronaldo Nazario had the Style Of play like FRancisco Paco Gento ..abit both ... with dribbles with technique and accuracy both with dribbles in speed always on the matches .. Runs of 40 meters ... 60 meters .... 70 meters ... and even 90 meters sometimes using dribbles in speed other times ..using ...dribbles with higher technique and accuracy covering ...greater distances really ... i think so this way ! hahahhahaa !!!
A little bit yes (the speed running with the ball) although Gento more often on the wing. and Ronaldo with more ball manipulation skills at slower speeds at times.
No, sorry, the 90 number was for dribbles wasn't it! (not sure how I made that mistake!). So probably 134 fouls over 41.82 lots of 90 minutes = about 3.20 fouls per 90 miniutes indeed I think for C.Ronaldo 07/08 PL+CL, according to what Carlito said. Anyway, I am really answering in a way I don't like now, so I really want to take a break from this thread and even the forum for a while. I have been getting more annoyed with every reply, and I don't like doing that.
yes stay cool and stay calm .. dear mate... just watching MicheL Platini ...videos .... dribbling skills .... hahahahaha ! please calm down abit on your mind ... aren't all people that has a mind like mine .. that loves .... numbers and Statistics hahahaha is pretty cool man ! at all !
Again, you also have no basis to claim that R9 had more than 1.9 successful dribbles per game, nor more than 2.3 fouls won per game. What you have are numbers from a random guy on twitter (actually from two different guys with different numbers). I at least have the numbers from the 1998 World Cup from Opta which I reaffirm: they may not be representative of his form at the club but I think they are very likely. Yesterday I brought a video of a game with 0 successful dribbles and I showed the minutes where the dribble attempt appears. I will continue to do this as I have time just with the games during his peak (96-99)
If they are not at all comparable then why was this the most discussed topic of the last decade and why do we continue to discuss it today?
Media and marketers it’s not rocket science. If a player that has world class potential played for Barcelona and the other plays for Madrid they will definitely be compared together. They tried comparing Robinho to Messi back in 2007 and even Robben at one point then they used Cristiano when he arrived there in 2009 although the rivalry was more premature from 2008 until the time he came to Spain.
He had a solo goal vs Turkey that Haaland could never dream of at thay level. Save it because a World Cup comparison is NOT what you want here
It's your opinion and I respect it. But putting the raw numbers of goals and assists favors those who have played in weaker leagues like France. I lean towards Ronaldinho because he has many more titles (Ballon d'Or, World Cup, etc.). Zico was 25 in 1978 and was voted the best in south america in 1977. I don't see much similarity. Gento was a quick winger with 1.68 (5' 7"). Ronaldo Nazario played further back, but he was a center forward, hungry for goals and physically strong with 1.83 (6′0''). I made the comparison a few years ago, I think on this forum, that I've always thought that Ronaldo Nazario resembled Eusebio: height, physical strength, a hunger for goals. Eusebio had an impressive 1966 World Cup, but then failed to get Portugal to Euro 68 and 72 and the World Cups of 70 and 74 (with very poor performances). While Ronaldo Nazario was the G+A leader in two World Cups. So I lean towards Nazario. But Eusébio is the one I see with the most similar style.
The difference is that none of these players compare to Ronaldo's greatness. At the end of the day, when all is said and done, greatness is measured by the titles you helped your team won. There's no way Ronaldo will fall on the rankings cause he won 5 Champions Leagues and 1 euro and is the greatest goalscorer of both competitions. Unless someone surpass this he will not fell in the all time rankings with the time
Ronaldo Nazario was also the leader in G+A in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in south america (10 goals and 6 assists in 15 games), according to transfermarket. Already out of his prime. https://www.transfermarkt.com.br/qu...te/pokalwettbewerb/WMQ4/saison_id/2004/plus/1 G+A leader in two World Cups (1998 and 2002) and one qualification (2006). Not just the leader of Brazil, but of the whole tournament. It's hard to say that he could easily be replaced by anyone.
I don’t want to use this word but I strongly detest this type of analysis what about the 4 European cup finals Eusebio played a huge part in taking Benfica to What about the 0 champions league finals Ronaldo Nazario took his team to? Eusebio has his goals in EC finals he won(1962 vs Real Madrid ) and finals he lost(1963 vs Milan) These vs some of the best teams of his generation He has great performances in a EC final that he lost and never scored/assisted in GREAT goals with GREAT performances & GREAT performances when he neither scores or assists Is Footballing greatness just about who had more goals/assists in 20~ World Cup games Is that it? Really? Eusebio completely outshone Pele 66 in a direct head to head(in a game of real high stakes unlike the 1962 intercontinental cup) If Ronaldo Nazario was on the same pitch as Eusebio you wouldn’t even realise he existed There is literally no evidence(anywhere) that Ronaldo Nazario has ever completed 5 or more dribbles per game that he has ever scored 1.5 goals per game That he has ever made 1 or more tackles per game That he ever averaged 1 or more long balls per game That he ever averaged 2 or more successful crosses per game That he has ever had 86 touches in one game let alone averaged it over 6 games it doesn’t exist and neither do his fanboys even claim that it exists(the ones who attempt to analyse his games on twitter) Even in the World Cup where there is seemingly an apparent advantage for R9 looking at just rudimentary statistics one close look at it shows in fact the complete opposite And what happened outside of the World Cup cannot be compared at all whatsoever Eusebio was a serial Champion(team level and individual level) I’m fully aware of your ‘tactics’ so don’t now hide behind the ballon dor (this is a preemptive strike) everyone knows Ronaldo nazario never deserved the 2002 ballon dor Everybody also knows that Eusebio absolutely did deserve the 1966 ballon dor(in addition to the 1965 one that he already won) Eusebio like Ronaldo Nazario and Van basten had his serious issues with injuries But fully fit he was a force of nature a force like a hurricane or tornado on the pitch He likely would’ve been my favourite player had I been alive in his era Ronaldo vs compostela/valencia was Eusebio vs the best teams in his generation And Eusebio vs the worser teams(in the Portuguese division or Korea in the World Cup) is a level R9 has never reached
Ronaldo Nazario glazing incoming. If there is a reason for some people glazing all-over Ronaldo Nazario's dribbling ability without statistical evidence, a large part would be how much his plays screamed "I am simply this good and you cannot stop me", when his attempts (I don't recall them being that outlandishly large in number) did work out. Like a lot of dribblers try to wrong-foot the defender, try to shift their centre-of-gravity, and play mind-games with them. It works great in terms of the isolated one-versus-one, but the rest of the defence can get into position while the dribbler and their marker doing their little dance. So even if the dribble itself is successful, the end result isn't as devastating immediately. It is why Kylian Mbappe sometimes reminds me of Ronaldo Nazario because the speed at which Kylian Mbappe devastates a defence adds an element of danger and excitement slower dribblers cannot replicate. Ronaldo Nazario in full-flow seemed like he was just stronger, faster, and too in control of the footwork. It sometimes looked like he didn't care what the defender was doing, and just set a dribble route towards the goal, and said, try and stop me. And if it worked, it meant Ronaldo Nazario added yet another solo-goal to his tally. It never looked like he was slowly losing control of his balance (like some dribblers such as Neymar who often struggled to retain balance under pressure, enough to compose himself for a smooth finish). He looked totally in control, and every moment it looked like he was tea-bagging his opponents in every manner possible, and he rarely looked like he was struggling to finish the play, or looking for a foul instead of a cool finish. In fact, it would often be the defenders literally being shaken to the ground, or bouncing off like flies. As a final insult to injury, he would often round the keeper also. So there is a large aesthetic appreciation, but also reverence for the ability that it takes to complete such a playstyle. Add the fact that he was doing this in his early twenties, with solo-goal tallies that rivalled retired players only after a couple of seasons, the impression left behind cannot be understated. Matching pre-injury Ronaldo Nazario's dribble count may not that hard, but to dribble at and through defenders, not playing mini-mind-games of left-or-right this time, and to do so fully in control of the ball, whilst retaining balance under pressure, and out-sprinting the entire enemy defence was a sight that very, very few players can replicate. I do not think it is the most effective playstyle, nor do I think it is the kind of playstyle that results in the highest number of OPTA dribbles. In addition, Ronaldo Nazario was not a full nintey minutes non-stop highlight reel machine that a dribbler with superior stamina like Neymar was, as far as my memory serves me. You had to savour the moments Ronaldo Nazario sprung into action, and my god was he so exciting to watch in action. I would not rule-out a young Cristiano Ronaldo beating out pre-injury Ronaldo in terms of OPTA dribble counts. Dude was blessed with good stamina, and had the ability to wear defences down with dribble volume. Pre-injury Ronaldo Nazario was maybe superior at incorporating dribbling into his goals, but Cristiano Ronaldo had learned to be both a deadly goal-scorer and deadly dribbler quite early on into his career, but maybe not to Ronaldo Nazario's level when those two traits were used in conjunction. I personally liken Ronaldo Nazario with Mike Tyson from boxing. Best in the world at an extremely young age, explosive, and fun as hell to watch. Not the greatest, but perhaps the most memorable.
Yes, your World Cup in '66 was incredible. But Eusébio was very bad in qualifying for Euro 68, World Cup 70, Euro 72 and world cup 74. I lean towards Ronaldo Nazario, but I respect your opinion. Perhaps. Because Romário was one of the greats of history too. But he didn't lead the 94 World Cup in G+A. It's hard to say that he would lead two World Cups and one World Cup qualification in G+A
Peak is what matters the most, R9 2002 WC campaign is a JOKE compare to Eusebio 1966 Eusebio was past his prime during WC 1970 qualification ( he wasn't bad at 70 WC qualifying tho)
Your opinion is that the one who helps his country qualify for more international tournaments is the superior player? I really struggle accepting a Ronaldo less Brazil wouldn’t qualify in the end A Ronaldo less Brazil won the World Cup with his ass on the bench A Ronaldo less brazil won 2 Copa America titles without him even on the plane A Eusebio less Portugal won their first and only major international trophy 2 years after he died He died in 2014 and he retired from international football in 1973 A Eusebio less Portugal have never gone past the World Cup SF stage Only twice have they reached the SF stage In 1966(with Eusebio) and 40 years later in 2006 This is the real apple and oranges comparison A club level comparison would be possibly the most one sided affair possibly ever Eusebio wipes the floor with him at club level completely
Context matters. Romário didn't played with prime Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos and Cafu in 94 (Cafu weren't a starter. Played 3 matches coming from the bench)
Brazilian National Team side ..... is much more easier to play always than Northern Ireland or Liberia or Portugal or Netherlands ..or Nigeria or Cameroon and to win Titles always Andrew Jennings journalist .... CBF ... Nike ..... Barcelona FC ... Fifa says : are corrupt ... manipulated world football Brazil is in favor and West Germany mainly
