You want me to give him stats for each category? I don't know enough honestly.

I think Ronaldinho functioned better with someone as Davids behind him, yes.

It is the same individual but football is also more than the sum of the parts when done well.

Ronaldinho having someone to combine with and play with already helps.

Italians have the worst PR in history. Nowadays we live in an age where Buffon is seen as far below Neuer, and Pirlo far below Xavi. I can only blame Calciopoli for making Italian football irrelevant in Europe and subsequently make their legends underrated. Big shame.

The Germans are the ones with the lowest percentage of votes

Buffon was also voted the best goalkeeper in CL history by a panel of ‘experts’ despite never even winning it
    https://www.calciomercato.com/news/...s-being-the-best-keeper-in-the-history-236776

Roberto Baggio was commonly ranked at the back end of the 20th century as a top 25 all timer.
That is despite never being the protagonist behind any real major trophy(World Cup,Euro or CL)

Nor was he the main protagonist behind any major league title

    He scored 8 goals(2 penalties)in Serie A 1994/95 for juventus(they scored 59)

Weah was the main man for Milan in 1995/96(nobody can even dispute this)
Dejan savecevic wasn’t inferior to Baggio in that scudetto win either

Fabio cannavaro remains the only defender to win a ballon dor in a season the ‘most skillful player ever’ Ronaldinho produced his career best season
    Etc…

Pirlo being viewed as inferior to Xavi isn’t far fetched at all(look at ESM)
It is a landslide victory there for the Spaniard

the underrated Italians are the ones you never mentioned
Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del piero

Maybe giorgio chiellini aswell(undisputed top 3 defender of the 2010s IMO)
But he doesn’t look like Ramos or Maldini or nesta

I think it's a question of culture. Italian football valued the team more than the individual. I always thought that Italian coaches slowed down Baggio's career, for example.

But their defenders are historically well-regarded: Maldini, Baresi, Buffon are on many all-time lists. Scirea, Nesta, has its advocates.

Pirlo and Xavi is an interesting contest. Xavi has a big advantage in the ESM. But Pirlo also has a big advantage in MOTM in World Cups and a better peak Sofascore and in national league campaigns on whoscored. So there are good arguments for each side.

I've never saw that "far" below although I personally consider Neuer greater/better for his UCLs and cause he plays with his feets both being equally good at shot stopping but it's very close and I see both as the top 1 and 2 at their positions.

Also, the very second, third and fourth best defenders in history imo are Italians (Maldini, Baresi and Scirea) and they only are behind Beckenbauer (coincidentally another German).

I also don't see that disparity between Pirlo and Xavi. Pirlo was better at set pieces and long passes while Xavi was better at short passes.

In no universe was Scirea better than Krol.

The ones with the bad PR is of course us. Always us.

Comparing MOTM awards in the World Cup and ESM monthly selections is wild

ESM measures elite longevity over a career
    IMG_7168.jpeg

    IMG_7169.jpeg
    literally 3x the amount
It is a ‘crime’ to put them in the same category of greatness.

Pirlo can’t have more than 5 MOTM awards in the World Cup
CR7 has 7 and he is my favourite player ever but definitely not a top tier legendary World Cup player

So how meaningful are MOTM performances in the World Cup anyways?

Pirlo and his 5(or less) World Cup MOTM performances can’t stand up to this

    Highest peaks in major competitions

    Euro

Pirlo has the higher grade in one World Cup edition(2006)but I hope you are not one of those who thinks 7 games settles any debate between 2 players who started their careers in the 1990s and retired in the 2010s.

Pirlo and Xavi have a couple of first places on dbscalcio (different leagues, you can't compare raw ratings).

Xavi has the advantage in esm, Pirlo has better grades in whoscored in campaign of more +30 matches.

    pirlo.png xavi.png

Pirlo better world cup in sofascore (and also according to fifa), Xavi better ucl

Absolutely comparable, it depends on which side you look at when a data cross is made.

Tbf Cruijff is seen as the top 3-6 of history. Also Van Basten is often compared to Ronaldo Nazario who is for many the goat at his position. Rijkaard is seen as equally good as Matthaus who is the best defensive midfielder. But I agree some players are underrated

David Beckham is underrated. He was a fine fine player. He converted from a wide mid to Cm/Dm late in career and was pirloesque. Impressive and underrated

    It’s self explanatory

shitting on Beckham because he has an inferior international record to Pele is crazy

you don’t need to be anywhere near as good as Pele to be considered a era defining player and that is exactly what he was.

Beckham In his peak had the end product to compare to any midfielder of the late 1990s and early 2000s…and Rivaldo was not a midfielder.

Guys like nedved,Figo,Zidane,Rui Costa,Scholes etc never and I mean never produced seasons that blew Beckhams best seasons out of the water(statistically at least)
That he was not a great dribbler/virtuoso is the only thing used to devalue him
