Expected goals, expected assists, pressures, carries, high turnovers and more | Advanced stats explained | Football News | Sky Sports

A low value means that when the player receives the ball (in the example I was giving at 0:18 - maybe it's more likely to calculate these values when the player shoots, but I was factoring in what he did before the shot too) the chance of scoring seems to be low. Players scoring from low expected goals values often must be displaying outstanding goalscoring/shooting capabilities on the whole I think, although sometimes it can be that goalies or defenders make a bit of an error too, or that a shot gets lucky (in this case I think it's fair to say Puskas showed outstanding scoring/finishing capability though anyway, even if like I said in quite a typical way for him it seems).

I think I would prefer in general to analyse expected goals at the point of receiving the ball anyway (although doing it at the point of shooting does say more about the shots themselves I suppose), and also maybe to think of 'expected assists' in a similar way (putting an expected value to the possibility of making an assist when receiving the ball - maybe that is not done as obviously expected assists (xA) seems as shown on that page to relate to the value after the pass has been made).

For example Romario at 1:56 here (not at 1:59), or Michael Laudrup at 3:31 for the assist (in theory the actual xG value would be at 3:34 maybe or at 3:35 and the same as the xG value for Romario's shot I guess):

    .....
For example, in Football Manager, my technical team sends reports bringing information about these expected xG.. for the next matches.. and honestly I don't read any of them..

    I don't need this information to win every possible game...there .. !

    that's it man !
    hahahahaha
is pretty cool at all and funny !

well, about this comparison between Puskas at Real madrid 58-64 and Romário 89-94

I think it's totally valid.. at the right manner or right point :

    They had extremely similar characteristics.:

    Positioning
    Decision Power " decision-making-power "
    extraordinary finishers
    equal dribbling style
    Technical kick
    Aggression
    Aggressiveness
    Leadership
pivoting like a Futsal center forward
    Classical Technique
    Attacking
    Body Balance
    Strenght
    Heading Accuracy

    1 vs 1 against defenders

knockout past the opponent ... 1 or 2 defenders !

    and Hungary national team side

he was a much more total player than Romário for sure

Puskas marking ... tackling better than Romario

    a construct playmaking level

    infinitely better than Romário

    more Stamina too !

Not important as such no, I don't think so, but just one of these new ways of analysing things.

It is a bit strange to see graphics on screen showing the xG numbers such as 1.73 or 5.32 etc! Indicating how many goals a team could/should have been expected to score (in those examples of course it indicates they had chances from which more often than not 2, or 5 goals, respectively, might have been scored with the same chances they had to shoot).

I think Romario was more skilled and a little more inventive, but somehow I tend to put Muller higher up in a best/top/greatest list, and I think (contrary to with some other examples) in this case I am estimating that Muller was tending possibly to be a bit more decisive and efficient, and giving the verdict to the player who has that advantage. I think he was better at shielding the ball (so that helps him be a not worse provider and team player possibly, as well as giving him more scoring chances in certain scenarios), and although they have similar capabilities in finishing and poaching maybe Muller is more reliable in that area too, and probably was more of a cool customer as it were in big games too.

It could be wrong to think Muller was better (they did play in different eras, even if not decades away from each other, and that always makes it harder to feel sure I guess), and maybe in peak performance on a very good day Romario could be a little better or more spectacular (Muller did have some impressive and notable performances too though evidently).

Gerd Muller was much more a Teamworker Player...

But Gerd Muller was very very Good to play

so many many Plays one-twos ..with Franz Beckenbauer ...showing .. + good Technique ..always on this.

many many backheels passes ...great vision ... sense of Positioning .." overview on the field "

    Flair of Goal always ..

Heading Accuracy Headers Won insane at all ..
Marking Tackling ..much better than Romário ...

yes .. Romario was more spectacular .. having a Puskas Style ... at all ..

I would say Pelé because most of his goals were scored in unofficial games, and he also never played in Europe. Additionally, there aren't a lot of his matches on tape (though this is not the strongest argument; it’s just a preference)
