https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1506580 has my preliminary list of greatest ever Guatemalan players; in 1999, the IFFHS ranked Oscar Sánchez as the best, with Juan Carlos Plata and Jorge Roldán behind him: Since then, Carlos Ruiz has undoubtedly made a claim to be the greatest. Here's a poll to see what the BigSoccer community thinks. Thank you for your input!
This was easy for me, especially since I did not see most of these players in action. Voted Carlos Ruiz
Definitely Carlos El Pescadito Ruíz, no one comes close to the amount of NT goals and number of goals scored with clubs playing abroad. Followed by: Jorge El Grillo Roldán Óscar El Conejo Sánchez Juan Carlos El Pin Plata Honorable mentions: Selvin Pennant, Julio César Anderson, Byron Pérez, Ricardo Clark, Edwin Westphal, Martín Machón, Juan Manuel Funes, Mario Camposeco, Carlos Toledo.
Federico Revuelto of course, no doubt. First and only Guatemalan to play for Real Madrid and goal scorer of that team and then becoming President of Real Madrid. http://www.corazonblanco.com/wiki/Federico_Revuelto
Yup, he might not be the best of all time in terms of ability, but when it comes to the impact he's had, there's no argument against him.
Sad to think what Pescadito could've been if he had a decent head on him...and a less developed liver...
