Time for some mental masturbation since we are in a lull right now. Well the current rumor flying around these boards is that the league is gonna set the roster limits at 16 regular players plus several reserves (from what I've read this ranges from 2 - 4). Apparently the deadline for the teams to submit their final rosters is March 24th.

According to the never ever redesigned Beat site..these are players currently listed:

    Julie Augustyniak
    Nancy Augustyniak
    Kylie Bivens
    Emily Burt
    Amanda Cromwell
    Charmaine Hooper
    Lisa Krzyowski
    Marci Miller
    Sharolta Nonen
    Cindy Parlow
    Homare Sawa
    Briana Scurry
    Nikki Serlenga
    Melanie Wilson
    Kristin Deplatchett
    Anne Remy
    Nicky Thrasher

    Our 2003 draft picks:
    Callie Withers (m)
    Leslie Gaston (d)
    Abby Crumpton (f)
    Katie Antongiovanni (f)
    Sandra Kayulu (m)

And let's not forget that we will have Connie Pohlers from Germany joining the squad.

    Did I leave anyone out?

    According to Soccer America...

The Beat will hold tryouts on February 23.

So who is on your 2003 Beat roster? I will post my lineup sometime Thursday night.

I think you've got it, Bonnie. I have a soft spot for Cromwell, but she didn't get much time in last year, and Stone seems to be looking for youth in his defense.

That's my list too, but with one change.

I think Stone is gonna make room for Withers somewhere. The only mid on the list that I'd even consider replacing would be Marci Miller.
    And that's with great reluctance.

If there's no other international, then I think Withers fills that slot.

    My thoughts:

    (1) Hooper
    (2) Parlow
    (3) Serlenga
    (4) Scurry
    (5) Wilson
    (6) Nonen
    (7) Krzykowski
    (8) N. Augustyniak
    (9) J. Augustyniak
    (10) Gaston
    (11) Withers
    (12) Crumpton or Burt
    (13) Sawa
    (14) Pohlers
    (15) Bivens
    (16) Miller or open international spot

    Reserves:
    (1) Burt or Crumpton (whichever isn't on active roster)
    (2) Miller, if she is taken off active
    (3) Antongiovanni
    (4) Cromwell, if she is still playing ...if not, Kayulu

    out there
I have to say I agree with this. She is too good to place on reserves. But who does she replace? Darn... we have too good of a team.

This looks like a good roster. It would be interesting to see which player combinations that coach Stone goes with. I predict that Withers, Pohlers and Crumpton see the most action of the newbies. A shakeup is really needed at striker IMHO. I wouldn't play Parlow and Hooper together anymore. I would team one of them with a fast striker (Pohlers or Crumpton) and develop competition for the starting spots. Parlow needs a fire started under her anyway.

Ok our team currently meets the league criteria for this year: 16 regulars and 3 reserves.

    Defenders: 5
    J. Augustyniak
    N. Augustyniak
    Nonen
    Bivens
    Gaston

    Midfieflders: 5
    Antongiovanni
    Serlenga
    Miller
    Sawa
    Withers

    Forwards: 7
    Burt
    Hooper
    Pohlers
    Crumpton
    Dominguez
    Kayulu
    Parlow

    Goalkeepers: 2
    Scurry
    Wilson

So far, only Crumpton and Withers have impressed me and Gaston is needed for our paltry defense so these players will be my regs. Gaston an Antongiovanni have to go to the reserves list. That leaves us with 2 spots open for the regular team. I'm just speculating but maybe Stone likes Kobayashi and so he made room for her on the list. Now Miller is a real tough defensive mid ,she likes going after people, and is a good header so I'm gonna put her in the defense because we already have a very good d-mid in Serlenga.

That leaves us with 1 open spot for a regular and 1 for a reserve. Ok, I know Gragg has been waived before, but goddamnit I want her back! She was speedy, never gave up on running after the ball, and came back for the try outs so she will be yet another forward on the regs (hey, with Pohlers, Hooper, Parlow, and Dominguez, we will have a lot of people gone this season for a few days). And now that leaves us with 1 reserve. I dunno who that is, so I'll just call her Reserve Defender.

    Here's my picks:

    Defenders: 6
    J. Augustyniak
    N. Augustyniak
    Nonen
    Bivens
    Gaston
    Miller

    Midfieflders: 4
    Serlenga
    Sawa
    Withers
    Kobayashi

    Forwards: 7
    Burt
    Hooper
    Pohlers
    Crumpton
    Dominguez
    Parlow
    Gragg

    Goalkeepers: 2
    Scurry
    Wilson

    Reserves: 3
    Kayulu-F
    Antongiovanni-M
    Reserve Defender-D

    JD,

I like your roster. The only comment I have is 7 forwards? why? I just don't think we need that many. I would rather have another middie. I know thats more of a problem that the Beat created, and we want to field that best team. What about any of the forwards playing middie if Sawa and Kobayashi are gone?

Sorry, that was not very articulate, but I hope you can understand what I mean. :D

Well if you remember from last year, Stone is in the habbit of taking some forwards to the midfield (like parlow and sunny) . So I'm guessing that he'll probably start Hooper, Pohlers and Dominguez up top and send parlow to the midfield. I don't particularly like parlow up top. She isn't fast and she doesnt have the striking power for it. However, she has excellent technical skills with the ball and she will be good for holding and running with the ball as well as operating as a target for longballs in the attacking midfield role.
