I usually follow the results of the annual InfoSport combine, which took place in January, with some interest as it's a window into how players are assessed by pro coaches and the depth of talent in this country, among other things. This pay-to-play combine is usually peppered with small-school prospects, many from overseas, and a few guys from D1. Very few of the players who actually turn up to this combine have historically made it to MLS that same year, though it has happened. This year there were several younger players in attendance and one caught my eye: a 1990 midfielder from Georgia named (wonderfully) Daniel Tackling. Based on the rating scale used, he was rated very high physically and decently well in terms of his game. Has a French passport and some ODP regional-level experience. Seeing as he's still U-20 eligible, wondering if anyone knows anything about this player. Seems to have held up well against adult competition.
Daniel is from Chattanooga, TN and is a very good player. He is a central midfielder that plays like an experienced vetran. He was coached in high school by one of my good friends and has done well in the TN ODP program. I am a bit surprised that he was praised for his physical attributes. He must have grown over the last couple of years.....to be honest, I thought his lack of size might be a detrement. It is good to see he is getting some pub though.
