i've played a cup final match on victoria park my proudest moment (we won) st james park is nice on one half, but it looks very unbalanced, which makes the stadium not look as nice as others (in my opinion). And its full of skunks, which obviously makes it worse...
Agreed. I've been there 3 times and the atmosphere has been non-existent, despite the fact that we've been soundly beaten each time. I don't think it helps that the ground has never been more than half full when CUFC are there - for some inexplicable reason........
as for that comment you show alot of ignorance....the stadium is right next to the river, and so the pitch actually NEVER freezes (and they have a hot blower thing to keep the grass from frosting) as the river keeps it warm, the only reason matches get called off is outside influences from the police and some other mickey mouse organisation, which calls it off due to conditions outside the ground, so shh k thx
I've been to St. James and Old Trafford and while the edge for St. James would be crowd support and atmosphere, Old Trafford is a pure spectacle, truly magnificent. I've also been to Villa Park, which was kinda crappy, even though it was (relatively) clean.
(1)Old Trafford- The Design and incredible crowd noise especially in the Champions League. (2)Stamford Bridge- Design (3) Anfield- When Liverpool are doing well (4) St.James Park-When Newcastle are playing well
I'm going back there this saturday. Not a fan of the place myself. At least they don't charge so much to go there (less than Wolves and Brum)
And as for the comment that it's in the middle of nowhere, you can park in town centre and walk to the ground. The Riverside is a beautiful ground.
and before the next person goes, oh its just another modern stadium blah, the riverside was the first of the so called modern stadiums and was the biggest built since the war, without the riverside other new stadiums probably wouldnt have been built (like derby, sunderland, bolton, etc)
Old Trafford has one of, if not THE worst atmosphere - along with Highbury - in the country - even worse considering the size of the ground.
No offence, but i dont think theres anything special about the riverside. True it was one of the first 'so called- new stadiums'! but the design is just boring and simple- like derby, leciester, southampton, etc.
i dont think its the best stadium, just sticking up for it from the dirty skunk. and also pointed out that it is historically important, and not only for the club, but for many clubs.
Sorry if you disagree, but whenever I see Man U at Ole Trafford it is loud and exciting. Highbury is much different from Ole Trafford from what I see and hear on Television.
How bout Bescot I grew up behind the "Old" Saddlers Park, and a few years ago went to the Bescot and was mightily impressed. Especially for Walsall. I also like Molineaux.
To be fair to Walsall at least it's new, but their ground is so small it takes the piss. Cardiff City's (I know its not in England) ground when fully finished will be comaprable to anything in Britain including Old Trafford.
after your post about cardiff i went and checked thier website about it http://www.cardiffcityfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewStadiumDetail/0,,10335~471703,00.html looks mighty big, however how are they ever going to fill it???
Walsall have no need for a bigger ground. Much of Walsall support one of the other four West Midlands clubs.
Cardiff has a population of over 300,000 and the surrounding area takes that close to a million. If Liverpool can support 2 clubs then I have no doubt Cardiff can support one
I don't mind the Riverside it was the first what has turned out to be many. However whenever I see man u on telly there's not much noise just a low humm of "should it be prawn or lobster?" And as for stamford bridge being good design the away section is like WW2 bunker but you pay £42 to sit in it.
Walsall is a neat little ground but it is tiny. For a town of Walsalls size they should really be competing alongside Wolverhampton for amount of support but because of the lack of success, most people in Walsall end up following Wolves, Albion or Villa. I went to Adams park in the F.A Cup a few years ago just after it had been unveiled and it was impressive, very small but very tidy.
I used to have Wycombe season tickets, which i would use when Leeds weren't playing. I also really enjoy Adams Park. Holds 10,000 even, is clean, and you can stand right next to the barriers on the sides instead of sitting. If you go by Atmosphere only, the The Hawthorns is very high on my list. I really enjoyed going there last season, and not just because we won 3-1....
Good game that was, The Hawthorns is a great place when it's on song. I never knew Wycombe could hold so much, it's been about 10 years or so when i went so i was about 12,13 so my memory of it must be cloudy. I know it was nice though.
true, i went there this season (we won 1-2 in the last min)- small ground but neat and tidy. One side is very poxy, while the other side is very impressive! Shame about the team!
