Old Trafford gets a bit of a bad press in terms of the home support, they aren't as bad as some make out. However, the seats in the away end seem to have been designed for midgets as there is absolutely no leg room.

I don't want to say the Lane to avoid accusations of bias, so I won't.

I'm sure you didn't really think it was made of gold, but for the record it's made of fibre glass. I know because my dad made it (well, one of them anyway) at his factory. It's a surprisingly big thing. The old one had been there for about 90 years and they opened it up expecting to see the special artefacts placed in there when it was made, only to find it wasn't watertight and was just filled with mouldy papery mush.

I think the best ground in the country must have been Reading's old ground Elm Park, judging by the amount of fans of losing sides who come to our new place and moan that the atmosphere isn't anywhere near as good as our old ground.

What kind of special artefacts were they expecting? Sacrificial offerings to the God of football or something? Actually that might be worth a try. Desperate times call for desperate mesures. Perhaps a pair of Ledley Kings shin pads or Dean Richards jockstrap might be placed in the new one, no wait, the God of football might relegate you for that offering. Still in 90 years it might cause some interest for artefact seekers.

    What's the criteria?

Biggest? Most history? best place to see a game? atmosphere? most modern? best meat pies?

Personally speaking it would be between-

    Old Trafford- Capacity, Look, Design
Newcastle- Capacity, Look, Features, Backroom facilities
    Bolton- Desgin, Features,
Man City- Design, Features, Look, Atmosphere

    Sorry 'HART'.

No i thought it was made of silver.

  11. Dunno what the best is but the worst i think was the old Field Mill. *#*#*#*# ground no fans. Bloomfield Road virtually medieval when i went there.
Richard L - Elm Park was alright - except that there was no shelter for the away fans as far as i can remember.
Huddersfield has the best ground design wise in the lower leagues but theres no atmosphere.

well liverbird the criteria can be anything. Either the best looking , best atmosphere, biggest, or just the best all around that provided a great and lasting experience. You just tell us why.

...and that's the way it should be (except when Reading are away). Ah the joys of seeing the poor saps on the away terrace getting absolutely soaked. Their only consolation was the chance to take a piss against urinals that had ivy growing up their walls. Elm Park was no gem (apart from one half of one terrace) but on the days when it was full it looked like one of the photos of grounds in the 1950s, with 13,000 of 15,000 people standing.
The Madejski may look rather better, but with the odd exception, the atmosphere is poor.

I guess St James' is the best I've been to in England overall. But, Anfield and Highbury are fantastic places as well.

And I've been to the worst this past weekend. Saltergate in Chesterfield. What a *#*#*#*#ing toilet.

The best stadium, is without a doubt, Colchester United's ground, Layer Road, with it's comical 3 sided look and a grassy bank where the 4th stand should be. A close runner up is Sincil Bank, of Lincoln City, which has three tiny stands, and one stand which reaches into the clouds.

As for all you dirty yanks saying that Old Trafford is the best ground, you clearly know nothing - the toilets are clean, the pies are rubbish and you cant get tickets because the whole thing's full of prawn sandwich munching idiots and tourists from scandanavia

I've been to every stadium in the premiership and about half of div.1

I would say the best stadium overall is St. James Park.

St.Marys is also a good place to go to. Nice stadium and good home support.

Old Trafford is impressive, but for all round experience there are several others that i would prefer to goto.

I love the Reebok it's a cracking stadium except it's in the middle of no-where and it's hardly ever full but the fans who are there are some of the best in the country.

Other favourites are Victoria Park (Hartlepool) and Shieldfield Park (Berwick Rovers)

The worst premiership ground is the Riverside, never full and no undersoil heating so 1mm of snow calls a game off and it's in the middle of no-where
