I don't have it on my cable system. Anyone willing to record the USA's games and exchange tapes? DaveBrett@msn.com www.DaveBrett.com
I live in Austin and has Grande digital cable. I think it carries Telefutura. I will be taping at least some of these matches. I cannot guarantee that I will have them all taped. PM me if you are interested.
Improvise, Adapt, Overcome ;-) Get a Ku-band dish and FTA reciver off of ebay and watch for free(KUTF-TV) to your heart's content. -adam
Check your channel line up carefully. I didn't think that I got it, but all the Latinos I talk soccer with said that I did. I checked at the right time, and found the game. Gold cup games were being shown on 2 channels.
What is telefutura? I am guessing it is a spanish channel, but I have never heard of it. Is it a sports channel or what?
To my great surprise, I do. The shoe is on the other foot ... I am used to missing out on U.S. games because it seems like most of you get Galavision, and I do not.
i'm in philadelphia and it's NOT on my cable system... however it's over the air, unknowingly to me, until informed elsewhere... so I watched panama beat colombia last night thru a haze of snow, the reception was a bit poor.... I suspect if you're outside the city of philadelphia by more than 20 or 30 miles, the signal might NOT be strong enough... but give it a try, it's channel 28......... I do get telemundo and univision via able, but galavision disappeared several years ago when telemundo was added.
Telefutura is an American based spanish language channel that focuses on culture. It's part of a three channel family of Spanish networks (which also includes Univision - the parent network of the other two and is more of a news network, though it still has a lot of soap operas and such - and Galavision). They focus mainly on the Mexican population but do stories and programs on all the different central and south American nationalities in the United States. This includes broadcasting Mexican and Spanish league matches (and even the occasional Italian league match) and some internationals involving Mexico and the United States (and occasionally other central american NTs) and (I think) the Copa America - though that may have been a Telemundo licensed broadcast. All three are kind of cheap in comparison to Telemundo which is owned by NBC and has a much larger budget to produce programming. And Telemundo reaches a much broader audience having affiliates all over the place. The other three are kind of more for areas with really high Spanish speaking populations.
I disagree w/ this. I really like Univision/Telefutura way more than Telemundo, especially when it comes to soccer. The broadcasts are much better (other than the announcers) on Univision/Telefutura. Newscasts are also far superior on Univision. Telefutura is great if you don't have cable and are a soccer fan. I watch at least 3 times a week the show Contacto Deportivo at 11pm/10 central/11 pacific. Republica Deportiva on Univision (Sundays 3-5pm eastern/12 pacific) shows MLS highlights.
Fine, on household reach, Univision has 98% reach of hispanic households and Telemundo has 92% reach. Telemundo: 15 stations, 36 broadcast affiliates, 684 cable affiliates Univision: 28 stations, 60 broadcast affiliates, 1,200 cable affiliates However, here's something I was also wrong on. Telemundo has an international wing which broadcasts to the actual home or ancestor countries. I had it reversed.
The difference I think is that I don't speak Spanish very well and just appreciate the Telemundo presentation more (the graphics are slicker, the camera quality seems to be cleaner, there seem to be more updating of stats during the match, and most importantly, more identification of the players during the match). Though I just found a great link on the quality of the newscasts and based on coverage levels of issues, it appears as though I would prefer Univision if I could keep up better with the casters. I catch about three words a sentence and have to construct from there. Don't know why I'm defending Telemundo so much. Probably because we all used to sit around in college, get drunk, and watch "Sabado Gigante."
the funny thing about this channel is that there's nothing on the screen that says about this channel, there's no name, logo or anything, so you have to figure out yourself.
Well, in Green Bay, Wisconsin we don't get Telfutura, I'll tell you that. Oooh. Look on ESPN 2. Billiards. Or Poker. Or a baseball wrap-up. Ugh. I just went to ESPN to complain. Why don't they sell the rights to FSC and get on with Texas Hold 'Em. Anyone else wanna complain? Here's the link. http://sports.espn.go.com/sitetools/s/contact/espntv.html
Chicago gets it through comcast channel 34. Problem was that I dvr'd it and it cut off at 11:30, needless to say missed the last 3 goals, what a kick in the nutts.
For two years now, ever since I've received Telefutura on cable, I hear their director counting down to on-air time over the commercials. This has to be a glitch, but it happens for Mexican league, Gold Cup, Confed. Cup, and anything else. I can't believe no one's told them about it yet. The last ten seconds of sponsors' ads are talked over by the guy counting down. Anyone else noticed this?
Watched the match last night on Telefutura. Channel 60 In chicago. Anyway.....the match was closed captioned in ENGLISH. So I was to understand what the commentators were saying. The subtitles were not always correct but it was quite readable. Not sure if they did this because they knew there was no English language outlet screening the match. They will also be showing the Canada v USA match. Will be interesting to see if they do the same thing. REMEMBER TO TURN ON THE SUBTITLES WHEN YOU WATCH. I had to turn down the volume because after a while they were annoying to listen to because i couldnt understand it, plus those blasted horns.
The logo is a little blueish logo on the top right - looks like a gradiation fat "T" with a shwoosh going through it. I think the funny thing is the variety of cameras they have - they seem to go from video to film in a flash. You think you are watching a replay, then you realize it is live. 5 or 6 of the US chances were not shown so that the commentators could laugh at multiples tapes of a Cuban diving.
The on;y I know is that the mother *&&^%$ say they will transmit all the games of the Gold Cup and they are not doing so, here in the Boston area, My carrier got all the three but not Futbol only the ones they like, last nigth was not Costa Rica in the air.
