According to the UEFA rankings of the teams for seeding purposes, the following 16 teams should make it through to the second group phase.

    Real Madrid CF (ESP)
    FC Bayern München (GER)
    Manchester United FC (ENG)
    FC Barcelona (ESP)
    Valencia CF (ESP)
    Juventus FC (ITA)
    Arsenal FC (ENG)
    Internazionale FC (ITA)
    RC Deportivo La Coruña (ESP)
    Bayer 04 Leverkusen (GER)
    Liverpool FC (ENG)
    Galatasaray SK (TUR)
    AS Roma (ITA)
    Olympique Lyonnais (FRA)
    BV Borussia Dortmund (GER)
    Feyenoord (HOL)

But that leaves out some teams that seem to be playing well now and may have a chance to advance -- most notably AC Milan and Ajax. Also, Leverkusen & Roma seem to be struggling.

So who of the "top" 16 is going to fail to make it through?

It looks like they'll all make it but Bayern München. The Bavarians have their work cut out and will need help - even if they win their remaining games. I think all the others should make it to the second round.

You left Inter off that poll, they are in as much trouble as Roma, if not more.

Lyon and Ajax will beat them at home.

You may be right, but they didn't LOOK to be in trouble after the first two games when the poll was put up. With Lyon & Ajax having gotten 6 & 4 points on only 1 home game and Inter having gotten 4 points on 2 home games, the swing of the schedule is definitely against Inter.

Ok, I didn't see the date. Maybe it was put up too early anyway. Now is the right time.

I think they will -- at Milan in a couple weeks, that coupled with Deportivo's win at Lens and BM is done. At worst, I see Milan holding for a tie which combined with a Deportivo win at Lens still eliminates BM.

If they win out they will only have 10 points. Milan and Depor can still get to 12 with victories over Lens (not too much of a stretch) and a Depor victory over Milan.

Depor and Milan will advance in Group G. That is all but certain. Look on the bright side, there's always UEFA Cup.

    ROFL. :D

Bayern in the Uefa Cup, What an insult!

I can't even Imagine Man Utd or Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup, it's not posssible! They would withdraw out of shame.
