I just looked over the regular season tv schedule, and I have to say that the Crew got screwed...as usual....it sucks living in Cleveland and following Cbus becuase we never get any games. All our games are from the first three or four games and then we do not get anything till the ends of the season.....I just doon't like how we get 5 games and other teams get amost double that.....

For $49, you get more soccer than you can handle on Saturday nights. Besides, it is better than the soccer we saw on TV in 1993, agreed?

5.4 is the average number of appearances for each team... that doesn't count the all star game or the mls cup final

(27 mls matches on abc/espn2, 54 teams appearing, 10 teams in mls)

if you have a real problem with seeing the crew, order the shoot out or go to more games

I have to agree that it seems that Columbus is on far fewer than others, but I think this is because of market size. I can understand that. The thing that bothers me more is the fact that most of the games are early on. None of the games with real playoff tension are on. And I do get the shootout, but I think that it would be a good idea to put entertaining games on. How many games did we see last year involving one of the worst teams, Metrostars? How many times did we have to see the disgusting turf of Naperville?

the reasons why the fire have nationally televised home games:

    -sold out
    -it's chicago (#3 market)
-best atmosphere in the league and it carries well onto the boob tube

i order the shootout every year.....i miss a majority of the games b/c i'm at the metro game....and tailgating often takes place of watching the saturday afternoon game....

nonetheless, it would be great if whatever game is being televised is on a day when no other games are being played...that way...the audience would be larger...arguably cause they wouldn't be at (or tailgating) another mls game...

    just my .02

and i don't like taping games...something about the fast forward button.....

the only time the shootout is really appreciated, is during the playoffs....especially this past year...when the metros didn't even qualify.

    :(

I just wish they could have a normal time slot for the whole season...but obviously college football is on saturdays, so they should have the normal slot til college football starts then after that do the sunday thing...but we have 3 tape delayed games?

You'd think MLS would have learnt from last season and scheduled the Naperville ESPN games in the spring or fall.

Two of the Naperville TV games are in June and one is in mid-July. And while Chicago often gets fairly mild weather in the summer, the July game in particular is likely to be played in sauna bath conditions.

    ok, the article here:

    http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/mls0116tv.html

says the metros are on ESPN2 9 times.

but that's wrong. just like they were wrong on the L.A. number of espn2 games.

    it's 10 on espn2 for NY and 6 on espn2 for L.A.

also, I only came up with 25 espn2 games. the reason: the tape delayed game they're talking about for July 26th is going to be a game from either Wed. the 23rd or earlier...there are no games on the 26th!

I went to the team pages and double-checked the math. Here's how each team stands (with that 1 tape delayed game left to be factored in):

New York- 10 times on espn2
New England- 7 times on espn2
    L.A.- 6 times on espn2, 1 time on ABC
    Chicago- 6 times on espn2
    D.C.- 6 times on espn2
San Jose- 5 times on espn2
Columbus- 4 times on espn2 and 1 time on ABC
    Colorado- 4 times on espn2
Dallas- 1 time on espn2 (tape delay)
Kansas City- 1 time on espn2 (tape delay)

So this leads to the following points:

    - If NY sucks then look for a year full of crap MLS TV.

    - Columbus fans who bitch and moan: keep it up and MLS will make your 2004 TV time look like Dallas' and Kansas City's 2003 time.

No, just the 2 NY/DC games. There will be many breathtaking goalscoring opportunities at the other games if NY suks.

As a Metros fan, I don't like it. MSG has better coverage of our games, showing practically every game (though hockey/basketball in October might push a game or two back a couple hours on tape delay), with good commentators. I've never seen huge chunks of the screen taken up (during play!) by graphics plugging-- in needless detail-- other sports and non-sports programming on ABC or ESPN. There's a half-hour pregame show that MSG puts considerable effort into, and never have I seen programming eat up the MLS coverage with overtime or golf tiebreakers, etc.

Having a half dozen or more of our MSG telecasts replaced with inferior ESPN2 telecasts is a considerable inconvenience. I'd rather them show the LA Clash play the Colorado Wiz.

I think you might be underestimating the number of people who would enjoy watching the Mutts lose on a regular basis.

ok, i was off by 100 miles. ;)

regardless, i would go. i can't exactly make the 13 hour drive to dc, so 2 hours doesn't seem to faze me that much.

Okay I fvcked up. I posted taking Benny's word instead of looking at the schedule. The schedule isn't perfect, but at least it's on. It does bother me that there are stretches of time with no coverage and the year end jumping around of games.

No love for Lamar Hunt's Teams at MLSHQ.

Combined they get 3 less appearances than the MLS darling Metros and the same number as single team owner Bob Kraft.

    What is up with that?

Because the Hunt people have expressed (certainly in the past) a preference for their home games being kept off television, local or national? That cuts the available pool of games by half.

Since the Metros and the Revs enjoy (as far as I know) the best tv packages in the league, it's almost a drag for local teams. For 28 televised games, I only get 21 that I wouldn't see anyways.

Columbus seems okay... can understand reluctance to televise home games on Sat. afternoon for Arrowhead or Cotton Bowl... I wonder if anybody knew about Dragon stadium BEFORE this schedule came out.
