Generaly, these rules don't apply with Auld Firm fans. I know guys who supported both Rangers and Liverpool. Some Rangers fans in Scotland support Arsenal. Most Celtic fans from Northern Ireland support Man Utd as their favourite English side, most Celtic fans in the Republic go for Liverpool.

Well, I LOATHE Man U. So, there you go.

I generally pull for Liverpool but only because I first got Fox Sports World in 2001 when they went on their UEFA Cup run and at the time I thought they were playing some of the most attractive football in Europe. Also, because I love Sami Hyppia.

Otherwise, I root for whichever team has the most Republic of Ireland players. :)

    You'll see half-Celtic / half-Liverpool scarves and half-Celtic / half-Manchester United scarves.

Historically Manchester United have enjoyed more support from Irish fans over the years, as it's my understanding, and therefore quite the Celtic following as well...

I dont really support any team in england, I have had good times with man u, liverpool,Arsenal, blackburn and QPR fans on football business though.
Traditionally celtic have a strong bond with man united, thats not so much nowadays but we still play each other in friendlies at least every couple of seasons, since kenny went to liverpool and hillsbrough we have also had a special connection with liverpool supporters.
Those are the main ones Id say, traditionally celtic supported everton as they were the catholic club on the mersey but thats ancient history now, and they wear blue......weirdo's ;)
Anyone but chelsea and Leeds or a strong right wing element in their support.

I know pleanty of Rangers fans who support Liverpool and Everton, i suppose its just a personal preference. Officially, no team has any specific link with another, the majority of fans my chose to follow another team from another league. Example, many Sunderland fans would claim to follow Rangers, and many Man United fans claim to follow celtic.

as i said, its just personal preference.

I don't really follow any particular team in England.

On one point I know that quite a lot of Gers fans from Northern Ireland support Man U stemming from the days of George Best/Norman Whiteside.

What a load of nonsense. If you're a real fan you can only follow one club side.

i've never ever seen any Rangers bais from Tottenham or Everton fans, infact Tottenham tends to get a fair bit of Irish support so it might Celtic they cheer for but i doubt most teams care

Celtic fans would try to ingratiate themselves with anyone.

Then steal their songs and pass them off as their own.

Celtic fans are a happy-go-lucky, colourful bunch who are friends with one and all, and who would never dream of having any enemies.

    Well said that man.

    As the song goes:

It's Rangers, it's Rangers, it's Rangers for me,
If you're no' a Ranger, you're no good to me.

As I'm sure someone will already have said, a real Rangers or Celtic supporter wouldn't support any English team.

Also, the comment about being a "die-hard" Celtic fan, living in "the Southern part of the US" made me laugh.

Considering the football (soccer) options in the southern part of the United States, choosing to support Celtic isn't that unsurprising. Certainly, we are going to have to hear some stories of long drives to bars showing SPL games and some trips to Scotland before we drag out the term die-hard. :)

Maybe the "soccer options" in the South are so limited because the local fans are too busy glory hunting in Europe instead of supporting local football at a grass-roots level? Much in the same way that Scotland is a footballing wasteland due to the popularity of the Old Firm.

Agree with the point though I think it's best put this way.

You support a football club (not just the team) and you can be a fan of other teams (or football in general).

Don't let fans destroy football (soccer).. fans are fickel, fans 'like' to be entertained... time for a new movement.

Kick Fans out of Football :D

Yep, that's it. Those darn Georgia, Florida and South Carolina Celtic/Arsenal/Juventus fans ruining it for the local soccer fan :)

Unfortunately, American football is very very popular in as a spectator sport in the southeastern United States. At the professional and college level, it soaks up a large portion of the sport fan dollar. In Florida, where I live, youth soccer is huge and because of the weather is played year-round. Unfortunately, the highest Florida based team is in the PDL (an amateur league). The closest MLS team is DC United (a 16 hour drive) and the next two divisions don't have any Florida teams:

    http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/standings/index_E.html

American fans that follow European soccer tend to follow bigger European teams because it is easier to follow them (more information available, better TV coverage, etc.) I could be a fan of East Fife, but at most I might see East Fife play 6 or 7 times in my lifetime.

Is it easier for Scottish fans to follow Celtic or Rangers rather than say Livingston or is it the equivalent of choosing to follow the Yankees or the Royals in baseball (neither is particularly difficult, but one tends to win a lot more than the other)?

Right here, my friend. I have both Irish and English blood. Arsenal was the 1st club i ever saw and love them. Have seen SPL matches with Celtic supporters and they are very cool people, plus they are the closest thing to an Irish club....sorry Hibs, lol. The atmosphere at Celtic Park, hooped kits, cool badge, and many Gooners in Chicago are good friends with Celtic supporters. We all get together and some of them who don't like Man Utd, will cheer for us.

Motterman and everyone else are very correct. Republic of Ireland is Man Utd and Celtic country. Liverpool is 2nd. Splashes of Arsenal in both N. Ireland and in the Republic....remember folks, in the 70s, Arsenal had tons of Irishmen.
