Italy, They have played the best soccer. There is to much jealousy against the Italians. History has shown they are one of the best clubs along with Brazil, and Germany. This years team will win with there defense.

    Champs - Italy!

    Runners-Up - France

    3rd Place - Germany

    Last - Portugal

Are you sure those were not Ronaldo's tears filling up the pool? He has a lot of growing up to do, but quite a talent, made even better once he matures.

From a strictly neutral stance and despite all the all the prejudice against Italy here, I think they are the most deserving team. They won the most difficult group, beat the hosts, and have played by far the most complete TEAM game of all the competitors...
11 goals by 10 diffferent players, 0 goals by opponents... Sorry to all you Azzuri haters but this year they should win it all!!! Best Defense...Best Goalkeeper...Good midfield, Good strikers... Deepest bench by far!
I'm looking forward to a classic final between two very well rounded teams with LOADS of experience...

By the way, to all those who post those ridiculous diving comments, you are really showing your ignorance of the game...

To those of you who actually understand football, ENJOY A GREAT FINAL!!!

why would you think that the american soccer fan likes France over Italy, ...is it just Zidane ?

i would suspect that most americans will root for Italy hands down, 70 % hate the french ...in my parts of the wood North Jersey havent met one person yet who wants France to win

    ABF -- Anyone But "France"!

For the love of GOD how does anyone say they want the Rent-a-Frenchies to win... is there even one actual Frenchman on this team? A win by Algeria West would mean the victory of mercenary soccer at its worst.

Go Italy -- for the sake of all this is holy!

I support my country Italy, I think it is very stupid with all the people saying that Italy dives and cheats. You think Italy is the only team that dives?
I can compose a list of people who I have witnessed dive that are not on the Azzurri roster.

    1. Ronaldo - Portugal
    2. Cohstina - Portugal
    3. Deco - Portugal
    4. Figo - Portugal
    5. Henry - France
    6. Ribery - France
    7. Ronaldo - Brazil
    8. Kaka - Brazil
    9. Cafu - Brazil
    10. McBride - United States of America
    11. Beckham - England
    12. Rooney - England
    13. Girrard - England
    14. Lampard - England
    15. Ballack - Germany
    16. Podolski - Germany
    17. Van Nistlrooy - Nederlands
    18. Van Persie - Nederlands
    19. Robben - Nederlands
    20. Mira - Poland
    21. Jelen - Poland
    22. Millito - Argentina
    23. Messi - Argentina
    24. Tevez - Argentina
    25. Nedved - Czech Republic
    26. Choi - Korea
    27. Noor - Saudi Arabia
    28. Yorke - Trinidad and Tobago
    29. Culina - Australia
    30. Wilkshire - Australia
    31. Gyan - Ghana

Thats just the few 32 I have seen. So don't complain just about Italy, it's not just them.

Gotta love all the "Well we're not the ONLY ones..." answers flying around here from - well, you know. As opposed to something along the lines of pronouncing such accusations false.

So, yeah, there are in fact American fans backing France in this, due to their fine play and the Zidane saga unfolding (one of the few inspirational occurrences in this WC), but also maybe because of those other guys they'll be firing at. Wonder if Sunday's Argentine referee has been met by Juve's finest in secret yet?

Another fine example of American deep knowledge of the game...!!!

It's very sad that your sour grapes allow you to only see the Zidane saga is "one of the few inspirational occurences at this WC".

As opposed to the deep Italian "knowledge" of the game. It is absolutely disgusting that you SOB's advocate cheating as an integral part of the game that is something to be revered as opposed to be reviled, but hey, you wouldn't have the Serie A 'champion' you have without such creative innovations as only you folks can contribute to the game, eh? Ah, but likely relegation wouldn't halt such histrionics, now, would it?

What a horrible attitude! I'd rather have self-respect than talent any day. I hope we never sink as low as the Italian football team.

    I like Pizza too.

However I see that there is cultural differences in our appoarch to the game of football. I see the game to be treated as FIFA has said "For the good of the game" I understand that it would like a husband and wife marriage that has a godly respect and not like an extramartial fornication that pushes the laws to the upmost but easily crosses the morals/ethics.

I guess I see Latin football is beautiful but also ugly and very ugly. Italians happen to be one of the first to go for the professional drive in the game and since then you will always seem have a black mark againest you.

But why defend such ugly professionalism? It's not good sporting behaviour. So why the supported attitude? If anyone wins the World Cup without a black cloud over them then that is a real hallmark of a great champion team. If a team loses to a clean team, then such a clean team wins their opponents fans during the tournment. It is a sign of respect earned.

I personally like the TV replays being available for referees if there is likeihood of penalties or close direct free kicks to confirm the ruling. A decision must be clear one way or another in most incidents.

    Anyway guys

    Hang loose.
