    Actually, you have that reversed:

    1. Rankings are dependent on recent historical results.
    2. England have had artificially/abnormally good luck in recent tournaments, which flatters them.
    3. Their relative weakness is there for all to see, whenever England play a "big boy" side.

The same effect is seen with the USMNT. They host a lot of tournaments, so they have artificially good luck, and so their results flatter them. The USMNT is then higher-ranked than they should be. They then get curbstomped whenever the USMNT plays away from home, or plays good opposition

    Yawn.

Setting aside his uncanny knack for not winning any trophies [much like his country], Kane will be a geezing geezer nearing his 34th birthday, and unlikely to contribute as well in 2026. He's also contributed to England winning zero trophies over his lifetime. Zero.

The other awards are down to those players playing on superior sides, all managed by managers from outside native English speaking countries. Neither of these factors are in effect when these players play for 3 Lions.

    And we've covered this:

No one gives a shyte about the U21s, because the actual GOOD sides have their U21s in their senior squads. But congrats, [snicker] to playing in a "B Tournament."

A few years ago I will bet for Mexico to be the first champion outside conmebol and uefa, now... that seems far.
I can't see a new champ outside south america and europe. The asians and africans countries have got a lot better but not enough to win a WC. Japan seems to be the best of all of them, but still far from winning it.
The odds of a new champions are Netherlands (usual suspect), Portugal and Colombia

I think the chances of having a champion outside UEFA/Conmebol decreased with the extra elimination round.

Even if you get an "easy" rival in the new R32, I highly doubt anyone will pull out a B team for that match and thus you will get one extra game of tiredness.

To avoid having your players exhausted, a team will also need an stellar bench to make up for it and some strong teams with good A teams like Japan don't have one.

Saudi Arabia will win $omeway, $omehow. :ROFLMAO:

Seriously, some mysterious calls and VAR would have to help a team like that win but I am not going to at all underestimate what FIFA will do.

  7. Yup, that's where it gets interesting regarding the Orange Squad. Our already ridiculous number of top quality defenders has this (and last) season gotten a boost with being in Germany voted the best defenders, but also measured as the fastest players of the BuLi and now van de Ven has joined them as the fastest defender in the epl. So we're about to have to leave at home defenders who would be solid first team players for other countries. Looking at the midfield the same thing is taking place. Italians can't fathom we left at home Koopmeiners, who they consider the best midfielder in Serie A. However new faces are emerging too in here, like Reijnders, Timber and Gravenberch and also in this line we will have to leave players unselected, who would make the line up for most other countries.
The only line that doesnot provide an abundance of choice is the frontline, but still good enough to have a strong attacking line.
If only we have a better national team coach, who doesnot select and play have beens being his favorites.

Just for sh$t and giggles, I looked up the Vegas odds (which if reason prevails, should be about the same in most gaming houses to have the same odds).

The team with best odds of winning the WC that is not from UEFA/CONMEBOL are USA (at 10th), Mexico (at 13th) and Japan (19th).

    France +600
    Brazil +600
    Spain +600
    England +650
    Argentina +800
    Germany +1000
    Portugal +1400
    Netherlands +2000
    Italy +2200
    USA +3300
    Belgium +3300
    Uruguay +3300
    Mexico +5000
    Croatia +6600
    Denmark +6600
    Morocco +6600
    Norway +6600
    Switzerland +8000
    Japan +8000

These odds were posted in July 2024, and have not been updated in any website. My guess is that when the EURO and Copa America outcome are taken into account, some of these will go up and some down. Colombia is not on the list, so, let' see when the new odds eventually come out.

I am not even sure that is true. At least not for CAF. I know Morocco just reached the semis but I think Cameroon and Nigeria in the early 90s were equally impressive. Yeah, they did not advance as far but they won/played with some initiative. Not just parking the bus and relying on bad finishing and under performing by their opponents.

Also, 2018 was a complete disaster for CAF. I want to see another decent WC from CAF teams in 2026 before saying there is progress
