How do we know he's not?

Whitecaps are promoting their team. They might as well say they offered Messi a contract too.

Because spending big money on someone who isn't a playmaker is a terrible idea?

Unless you have watched Wilman Conde play defense this year.

Stupid Fire. Why haven't we offered Messi a contract, too?! :(

  6. Didn't you know? Messi would be worthless on the same field as Logan Pause :)

Besides - he's injured. We have enough frailty on our team already.

I love Jay DeMerit. His story is inspirational and should be a lesson to all disenfranchised MLS academy types.

He'll be 31 in December. Move on. If we aren't trying to land better CB candidates than Jay, then we really are in trouble.

You don't realize it, but you are making my point. Conde is one of the highest paid defenders in the league and would likely get pretty big money if the fire resign him.

And, while Conde has been brutal this year, our defense hasn't been bad. It's our lack of goals that is killing this team.

Finally, while presenting the argument "no successful team does X" doesn't *conclusively* mean doing X is a bad idea, no successful team (or unsuccessful for that matter) spends big money (relative to the rest of their team) for center backs, in any league.
