And TFC doesn't really need a keeper right now. But I figure the Whitecaps would be happy to go with Hasal if they could swing that trade. Just playing "what if", of course.

max crepeau could be sold to any MLS or euro club- he has shown himself to be a reliable, courageous, aggressive goalie who has good hands (few rebounds), dominates his box area, is getting better at distributing the ball and can keep his team in a game with some spectacular saves - he rarely makes a huge mistake - and he hasnt hit his ceiling, although he must be banging his head on the goalpost watching this team flounder from 1 disaster to the next - with the right team, Max would show his quality and be in the top 5 goalies in MLS

so why would the Caps need evan bush with crepeau coming back for 2021 and with a young and somewhat talented young goalie in thomas hasal ?

it only make sense if crepeau is on the selling market and maybe he wants something better than the chaotic Caps which does/will do little to enhance his resume

That is plausible. 1+1/2 years at Bush's current salary is not a problem. I think Max may move but after the 2021 MLS season during the Euro winter transfer window.

The other possibility is that both Max and Hasal have injuries way more serious than at first thought. Perish the thought but it could explain the rush to get someone who could either start or push Meredith

I don't think you make a trade like this due to an injury problem. That would be a long term fix to a temporary difficulty.

    DROOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TFC have 2 top-notch MFs in pozuelo and piatti and 2 good mfs in delgado and osorio

and what do we have- 1 average MF in bikel and 3 lower than average MFs- teibert, owusu and baldisimo (and he could raise to an average or better in time)

no wonder we have struggled all our time in MLS- its always been about our MF inadequacies- and this year, we have the weakest in MLS, without question

and that lies mostly at the feet of MDS as we all know the owners will never go much beyond the MLS salary level

we have to hope that alphonso keeps exceling so more $$$$ comes back to the Caps for players

of course, we all know that having a talent of signing the right players is crucial- we must have wasted millions between robo and MDS on players that never performed to their salary levels - and the FO/owners were either incompetent or complicit, probably both

Axel has been here a year and hasn't been any better. Certainly a yes man who can get a promotion and tow the company line; but his international signings are under performing and he has not addressed the midfield in any meaningful way.

LMAO. I don't think we need to worry about that as he is totally rocking the Champion's League at 19.

I will be forever proud that of all the stupid shit the Caps have done, they did not screw up the talent of a generation. They actually helped him develop.

the best thing robo did was just let him do his thing on the field and have pa and kei be his mentors- coaching skills is not-was not carls' forte

with phonsie's continuing successes, i wonder how much more $$$$$$$$$$$ the Caps will get... and waste

I'm thinking the Caps will get the full $20 million. Given is current market value he is going to set another record on his next sale.

Davies perceived transfer value will get high enough that it will be hard to resist when Qatar (AKA PSG) come knocking with an obscene transfer offer when they get desperate to win a Champions League.

I know Ranko is young and could still be a good CB but that $2.3 mil xfer fee seems a bit bloated since we just paid $600k for him. They probably figure they need him for the last 4+ games (+ if we make the playoffs) and that they can recoup their money if they get someone better next year.

YUP-- its firstly about money with this Club- and IMO, ranko will not be a front-line CB as he is slow-footed- but with his size and playing experience, he presents a better package for a euro club than what he really is

    AS A SIDE NOTE-

there is no way the owners who bought the franchise for $35-40 mill 9 years ago have lost money; with expansion fees and SUM money, they will have received tens of millions since entering MLS

i see 2021 as the most important year for the Whitecaps- thousands of supporters are done waiting and the expectation of average attendances of 22K are over- unless things vastly improve- ie 2 significant DP players in the total range of $4-6 mill, plus a top-up of $2-4 mill in wages- average attendance will be about 15K- i think there is that big a drop-off

unless MLS HQs intervenes in a vast way- aka columbus, chicago, houston- the franchise will be sold and moved to a USA market- not sure the franchise can find local investor(s) without owning a stadium as their investment would have to be in the $400 mill range (buy out the owners and build a 25 000 seat stadium)

it would better a better investment if the BC Lions of the CFL are part of a new ownership group- i have heard that the Club can be bought for under $15 mill- building a new stadium of 25 000 makes it a better investment if the both the Lions and Whitecaps come under 1 ownership banner- certainly, the CFL HQs wants to save the Lions and make it much more profitable- they have lost their way also

i would imagine that some investors/community people have kicked this tire - Lions and Whitecaps- not sure the tire will be a fit, but its certainly more doable and sustainable if both are a package - but NO T&F configurement as the fans are too far away from the field

perhaps individual supporters can be a part of investment, something like with the Sounders in Seattle where average people get to vote after joining (not sure how much people have to invest to become part of the ownership)

I dont think the Caps would do as well in a suburban stadium. When they draw over 20k, they get huge walk-in people who live downtown or close to downtown. The Lions are very much as suburban team and could do well in a stadium out there. A CPL team needing 5-8k to be viable could do well out in the burbs. A combined stadium would be nice out in Surrey, but does anyone in their city have the political will? Mayor Doug is a hard no on stadiums for sports right now.

PS - There is no where in Vancouver that a new stadium site would be approved that I can think of, and absolutely nothing downtown so don't think that is viable. That is long since dead. Even if there was a viable site, they will not get political support on any stadium in Vancouver that would leave BC Place without tenants.

i get what you are saying- i am floating a trial balloon to see what others think

i will add this about BC Place Stadium: the liberal government spend well over $500 mill to refurbish it for the 2010 winter olympics- even with the Lions and Caps, it must be a white elephant... except for the land which must be worth at least $1 bill (just a guess) (St Paul hospital land sold for near $1 bill and its not near false creek which will going through a major facelift over the next 5 years)

Adrian dix, BC government NDP incumbent, said in 2013 he wanted to see the stadium demolished due to its debt load every year- i wonder how much its loosing in 2020 and will continue to loose-

    https://www.nationalpost.com/m/www....ell+place+cover+pavco+debt/8288356/story.html

    https://www.thestar.com/news/canada...-to-concord-pacific-for-nearly-1-billion.html

it seems to me that selling the BC Stadium land would be a financial winner in profit and getting rid of a white elephant- maybe the Government would be willing to help finance another stadium in the lower mainland - and then it would be more attractive for investors- and it would help save the Lions and Caps by allowing them to get revenue from the stadium, thus making both more sustainable- a 25 000 seat outdoor stadium on major transportation routes sounds right to me - a major city like the greater vancouver area needs a major sporting facility

That is a good idea but I don't want pointy ball in the stadium. It will destroy the grass (yes real grass). The Lions need artificial turf. The field size also suffers.

When the Caps leave BC Place they need to control their own revenue streams and make it a true soccer stadium with a proper grass field.

i dont see any investor group willing or able to shell out $500 mill to buy the Caps and build a 25 000 stadium for their private use - even with the lions involved, it still would be hard to pull out... maybe even impossible without special help from governments and corporations

it would have to be - unfortunately- artificial turf and not in the DT core

continuing at BC Place Stadium will suck the life and hope out of both clubs

but on the other hand, BC Place is loosing money annually- do we really need a 55 000 seater for our 2 professional sports in a prime area of the DT

money always moves a government, including an NDP which could get rid of a white elephant and reap a huge profit- thats the carrot that could bring some hope for both the Caps and Lions- otherwise, both clubs will stagnate and decline ... its inevitable

The stadium also doesn't have to be super fancy. Good, yes, but it doesn't have to break the bank. Possibly the government could sell BC Place and build a new, smaller stadium in a good location and profit on the deal.

TFC shares with the Argos and there's no problem with the field. They have under turf heating (probably less necessary in BC) and something like 5% synthetic fibres mixed in with the grass (or something like that - I'm not a grass specialist). Anyway, with 2020 technology instead of plain old yard grass, it is doable.

TFC and a lot of others use the Desso Grassmaster system. It is augmented real grass. It holds up better than plain grass. I'm okay with that. If that was the plan I'd be okay with including the Lions. I'm just afraid they'll cheap out and use fake turf again saying "we had to because of the Lions". I'm sick of them cheaping out routine.
