Let’s say Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix and Keith Richards return from the grave and deem that there shall only be one minimalist, bass-less, generally blues-ish ensemble in this particular rock era.

    Which one would you choose?

The primordial psychotic ooze that is the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion?
The blinding shriek of the White Stripes?
Or the fuzzed out grit of the Black Keys?

Which one makes you feel invincible?
    Which one rocks hardest?
    Which one rocks truest?
Which one sweeps away the pain of mundane and the pallor of the banal?
Which one makes the world a better place?

Which one could you truly not live without?

Let me make clear that both losers will not only cease to exist, but all their music will be erased from memory and history.

    ..... alas.... choose wisely . . . .

JSBX wipe the floor with White Stripes, who are just bedwetters compared to them.

The Soledad Brothers should really be part of this poll, too.

I have to admit to liking the Black Keys record way more than any White Stripes or Blues Ex disc, but *live* you have to go with Jon & Co, no?

The White Stripes are the most musically interesting without (yet) being too brainy.

The Black Keys clearly play the most "honest" blues and their record is one that you can really settle into and enjoy.

But while the Blues Explosion's albums have been on a distinct decline over the last few years and while even their best albums can sometimes be daunting to stick with by the 3/4 mark, the world would be an infinitely poorer place if noone ever had the chance see Jon Spencer playing the theremin like he was commanding Lazarus to rise from the grave, or have the chance to hear the phrase "Get a whiff a my pant leg, baby!" uttered with complete conviction, or to truly know the power of Bell Bottoms.

    Damn!

If the Soledad Brothers would simply change their name to "The Red Soledad Brothers," I'd happily include them in my poll.

    ("bedwetters." heh heh.)

I'd go with JSBX also. Hell, I'd even put The Delta 72 ahead of the other two.

All you Spencer fans, there is a DVD in the works for release later this year. It is suppose to cover all his projects ********** Galore,Honeymoon Killers, Gibson Brothers,Boss Hog and of course JSBX. Ill post some more details later this week , but i know for sure that the concert footage is pretty varied and not that bad-a naked Christina Martinez can never be bad.
