FWIW, I was kidding about the ice thing. I can drink whiskey either way, but normally I prefer it neat.

Bookers is indeed good bourbon, around $35-40 / bottle.

Lets put it this way, drinking Scotch "on the rocks" to a Brit, especially to a Scot - which I am not - is like eating ribs with a knife and fork to an American. Absurd to most and criminal to some. It's just what you're brought up on.

We all got that one. I think my Bluenose colleague was referring to me, as I stated my preference for ice.

I'm not a big whiskey drinker but I rate Midleton's Irish Whiskey as the best I've had by far.

    Glengoyne

They don't use peat smoke, so it's smoother and lighter than a lot of single malts. Of the ones that I've had Oban is the most similar to Glengoyne.

You have to hunt but most larger liquor stores will have it.

Anyone wanna turn me onto a craft Speyside I can get in the States? The top-shelf Glens are fine, but I'd like to enjoy and support the more obscure talents in Scotch production.

Scotch: Glen Livet or Oban (some guy in my imediate family always seems to get a bottle for Xmas)

Bourbon: Jim Beam 8 yr (I can get handles for $35-30 and it'd just a s good to me as makers mark)
